Vegas Pro 15 & 16 locking up!!

Hi all, I have been trying out both Vegas Pro 15 & 16 and I have a constant problem. Whenever I use the “help” function the program locks up, becomes “unresponsive” and I have to close everything down. This was instantly apparent when using either the index or search functions at first but it turns out that I can’t really select ANYTHING now apart from some of the help window drop downs and tabs. Selecting or even TRYING to search for a subject IMMEDIATELY locks up both “help” and Vegas entirely.

Apart from this locking up both programs seem to work perfectly. All drivers, Windows 7 (64 bit) software, updates, registry are up to date and clean. I have run every trouble shooter I could find and still can’t get the slightest hint of what could be going on or where the problem could originate from. Vegas? Windows? Data base failure .dll files? I even tried logging on with a new user identity.

I'm not SUPER software or OS literate so could ANYONE help with this irritating and un helpful problem? No other programs I have seem to suffer from this.

I really hope someone can help.

Until someone comes up with a solution, see if you can find and use C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Help Files\vegas160.chm instead of online Help. Create a shortcut. I could not replicate your problem (full v. and Win10).

Interesting. So is this a “stand alone” help function/data base?

Occasional issues with this have been reported before. Read this thread started by one of the independent gurus of Vegas. The links in the last comment there by yours truly mention that uninstalling/reinstalling helped one user and another's user's issue was "mysteriously solved".

Thanks for that. It’s a relief to see that others have had the EXACT same problem...it’s a cold comfort but a comfort none the less. I have seen this in other forums with different programs and many people run the .chm help file using a stand alone reader and have that going the whole time outside of the main program they are using. Upon proper shutting down last night my pc did some updates. This morning Vegas Edit 16s helps function seems to work via the index but the search function still locks it up. It seems that many people have tried to look at similar issues in other software but it’s cause and therefore “true” fix remains a mystery. At least now I have half function (for whatever reason) and looks like I could have a back up plan via a .chm reader...maybe....
