Vegas Pro 18 - multiple device registration

mark-j wrote on 3/3/2022, 4:33 PM

Hiya!

My son has Vegas Pro 18 just over a year. He has a new laptop yet he still uses the program on his old one.
I am wondering does anyone know if we can download the program onto another laptop in the house without having to buy a new license as the program is still going to be used in the same household but on another laptop.

Thanks.

From the FAQ point 9:

"How many computers can I use VEGAS Pro on?
You can use VEGAS Pro (14.0 and later) simultaneously on 2 devices. VEGAS Pro 365 can be used on 1 device at a time.

To deactivate a device, so you can activate a different one, visit your MAGIX account > My Products > Show More Details > Deactivate. This option can be used only once a month.

In VEGAS Pro 14.0 or later, you can also choose Deactivate the Software on this PC from the Help menu This option can be used as often as you wish. An internet connection is required."

Hi there,

For perpetual license, you can install in 2 devices. So, you can log-in to www.magix.com or www.vegascreativesoftware.com and go to 'My Products' section.

Look at 'Show more details'. There you can check the installed devices and deactivate it.

For subscription license (VEGS Pro 365), you are allowed only in 1 active device.

@set actually (almost) a tie. We need a photo finish? 😄

Thanks guys. Both of you are legends! Thanks for the responses and clarifications.
Really - much appreciated! Thank you so much!

Didn't understand the 'photo finish' comment 'til I went back, after seeing both replies and my consequent comment, and seen the time of both replies - uncanny dudes!
Thanks to both of you. Fair play.

For me who just upgrade from Vegas 12.0 to 19.0, this was a huge disappointment. I run Vegas on several machines, but (obviously) just one at a time since there is only one copy of me. But it depends on where I sit and which computer is busy with other things. I have no problem with only being able to run one instance at a time, but this thing with deactivate and the limit to activate/deactivate maximum once per month totally ruins that.

Assuming that you have Vegas Pro 365 with use on 1 device only, please refer to the second part of vkmast's comment in which was stated:

@d97jro the two options to deactivate are quoted in my comment above. (As already already pointed out by @Dexcon as well.)

Wait a second, so I can deactivate (and of course re-activate) as often as I want if I do it from the program, but only once per month and device if I do it on the web page settings for my account?

Confirmed here (though the text in brackets there should be "one per month" re the MAGIX account option). "There are no limits on the number of times you can do it that way. If this doesn't work for you, we'd be interested to know."

Hi there. Greetings from Australia. I think I'm on the right track, but would appreciate confirmation. I have Movie Studio 17 Platinum on 2 machines (but only use it one at a time - like some of you have mentioned here). Recently, one of my machines needed a hard drive upgrade (my C:\ drive). Now My Service Centre shows that PC/device has been activated twice - once back in April this year, before the hard drive upgrade and once last night (the first time I've launched the program since the upgrade. This means I can't launch it on my other PC as both activation slots are taken. I'm thinking I should just deactivate the earlier activation of this PC/device and keep the activation from last night and then activate the program on my second PC/device, but I don't want to compromise any previous work/files by doing this. Logic tells me it should be OK to do this, but I hoped someone could confirm this is the correct course of action. Thanks. I look forward to your reply.

Dexcon wrote on 11/1/2022, 6:50 AM

Deactivation via your My Account in no way affects your work - it is only relates to licensing. Simply deactivate the activation re your defunct C drive and then start VMSP17 on the new C drive and follow the activation process. You will no doubt need your serial number and email address used at the time of original registration to complete the process.
