Vegas Studio 17, Screen Capture feature does not capture audio

Lascou wrote on 6/22/2021, 6:59 PM

Hello. The VEGAS Capture feature does capture the screen, but no audio. The level bars of the microphone do not move.

The microphone device is correctly selected - HyperX.

Other devices such as Windows Voice Recorder and Sound Forge Audio Studio successfully capture my voice using this same microphone.

If I go to options > preferences > audio device > audio device type, there are 4 audio device types. The first one (Microsoft Sound Mapper) is selected by default. I tried all 4 of them. None works. I noticed the third one (Windows Classic Wave Driver) recognizes my device (hyperx) in the "default audio recording device" field, but neither does this audio device type work. As seen in the screen.

System specs:

Windows 10 Pro, version 20H2, OS build 19042.1052, AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor, Nvidia GTX1070 graphics card. Hyperx Cloud USB headset with microphone.

Vegas Studio 17.0 build 221.

Is your computer's web cam (if available) turned on? On one of my systems there's no microphone audio if this camera is turned off.

No, this computer is a desktop, has no webcam.

Can I install the software in a second computer? Does the licensing allow that? I could try and see if sound capture works in another computer.

The following applies to VEGAS Movie Studio(s) as well:

From the main FAQ: "9. How many computers can I use VEGAS Pro on?
You can use VEGAS Pro (14.0 and later) simultaneously on 2 devices. There are 2 ways to deactivate a device so you can activate a different one:

Visit your MAGIX account > My Products > Show More Details > Deactivate. This option can be used only once a month.

From the VEGAS Pro Help menu choose Deactivate the Software on this PC. This option can be used as often as you wish. An internet connection is required."

Sniffing through the support pages I found the recommendation to enable "Stereo mix" device. But all it achieved is that other apps also no longer could record from the microphone.

I have raised a support ticket.
Just for informational purposes, I installed the software in a different computer and, in that computer, audio capture works.
In this first computer, audio capture does not work, even with different mics.

The issue seems to be isolated to this computer, of at least this installation. I could format the computer, but I would rather avoid it.

Same issue, do you have any news?

Lascou wrote on 7/30/2021, 11:38 AM

No. I gave up altogether. I am using nVidia GeForce Experience to capture the screen now. Even when the Vegas screen capture feature worked (in another computer) it would produce unsynced video and audio tracks, and they would not have the same length. Just too many problems.
