Video fx window disappears!

All of the sudden, after working fine for months, - I went to add a video fx to a picture. Instead of bringing up the fx window, where I could adjust the controls, the window just sort of flashes and than appears to quickly contract and dive and disappear in the lower left corner of the computer. Can't find it anywhere, and trying to open another video fx, the same thing happens, . . . repeatedly.
By going to the fx buttons, I can see that the 'enable' delete' and 'bypass all' buttons in the video preview window are all active - if I click on any of them , they gray out and the next time I try to add a video effect, the effect is put on the picture - but still the fx control window dives out of sight and I have no ability to adjust or make any choices. All very strange.
Anyone run into this or have any ideas?

Try this: Go to View and check off/close everything that you have, well, on view, until you are stripped naked of controls/functions.

Add an FX to an Event and see if you have the FX Control anywhere on the screen. It maybe just several pixels in HxW, and hinding vcery very close the the "Vegas Horizon" edges. IF you can see it just run your cursor slowly over, even the tiniest of edges, and see if you can get your Cursor to change into the Window Pane adjustment-arrow. IF you can drag/adjust the FX Window pane to a size that is useful. Now once you have done this, it SHOULD be the default size the next time around you use it.

I've done this to myself, and it is very scary. But try this and see if you get anywhere with it. Personally, I'd like these controls to default to NOT less than whatever useful HxW there is.

Ughhhhh this is maddening and it's happening to me. Your trick (very clever) didn't work, sadly and I'm about to throw my desk out the window haha

Not quite sure what your "this" is, but have you tried resetting? Note the points 3 and 4. See also e.g. this comment.
