Video Preview Controls dissapearing

Hi, quite often the controls at the top of the video preview pane disappear (split screen, preview quality, overlays etc) and the only way to get them back is to pick the default layout again from the windows layout, this can't be right what am I doing wrong?

It isn't right, but until you find the reason for the disappearance, be sure to have "Show Toolbar" checked. Right-click on the Video Preview window to see the menu.
