Video Preview not working

I just purchased and downloaded Vegas Movie Studio 15. I'm watching beginner tutorials and noticing that I'm not seeing what I think I should with regard to the video preview function. The tutorial said that when I first opened Movie Studio, I should see a demo. I did not. I created a project and added video, but when I hit the play button on the video preview the screen is just black; no video shows. Also, in the tutorial, the video preview box has a toolbar at the top. Mine has no toolbar. I cannot figure out how to fix this.

You may have come across tutorials that are related to the Platinum version, which includes features that are not available in the Vegas Movie Studio 15 basic version.

You should find in C:\ProgramData\VEGAS\Movie Studio\15.0\SampleProject welcome.vf which may be the demo version referred to. Import that into the Program using the Add Media... option.

The basic version does not have the Toolbar you refer to. Some of the options of that toolbar in the Platinum version are available if you right-click on the Preview screen.

If you have not accidentally muted your video track ("M" button pressed"), you may miss a necessary codec. Have you tried this with different file types? The info mentioned in C-1 here might be needed. Unfortunately the "upload file" function in the Comment box does not seem to work at the moment.

Click the "hamburger" button (3 horizontal lines) and edit visible button set to activate more buttons.

Thanks so much. I had muted the video track and that was the problem. Also found that sample project welcome.vf, which is helpful. I was looking at the same tutorials that were at the link you provided, I clicked only "movie studio" to try to make sure I was seeing tutorials only for that one, doesn't matter now since your advice was exactly what I needed to move forward

Excellent. Thanks for coming back and confirming.
