VMS11 & Stabilize: BUG!!!! Unbelievable...

Roberto65 wrote on 6/30/2011, 11:42 AM
Hello,

I have one problem: I have stabilized a video file, and in fact now in the clip it is shown "stabilized".
Now I wish to remove the stabilization.
Following the Help, I right-click and chose "stabilize".

"To remove stabilization, right-click an event (or a clip in the Project Media window) and choose Stabilize Media from the shortcut menu. In the Stabilize Media dialog, click the Remove button."

First of all, when I do this, I am still ask if I wish to create a sub-clip.
Then, whatever I chose, the button "Remove" is always disabled, so I can't remove the "stabilize"!!

I tried to stabilize the same clip with VMS10 and I can apply and delete it (the remove button correctly appears).
On VMS11, seems to be no way to remove it.

I wonder how can Sony insert such a stupid BUG... clearly this function was not tested!!

Can anyone confirm this bug of VMS11 ?

Thanks

Roberto

Please do not make new threads about the exact same issue. If you had something to add, then you should have replied in your first thread.

If you found a bug, simply send it to Sony. Bugs are always bound to exist.

OK,

actually I created the 1st post, then made some additional tests, and finally created a 2nd post to highlight the situation.

Btw, can you confirm this bug ?

Moreover, how long will it take for Sony to react ?
I hope it will not be fixed in VMS12... :-)

I found one way to revert the stabilize effect.
Once the stabilize is applied a subclip is created.
Right-clicking the clip, and selecting "Take", it is possible to choose the original non-stabilized clip.

So, even though the Remove button remains inactive in the stabilize dialog box, by clicking Take we can select the original clip.

Hope this post can help those who will find the same issue.

Select the undo icon. Do you see "stabilize media"? If you do, click to see what happens.
Edit: I see you found a way.

Yeah, Sony will correct this? The ONLY way they'll rectify this is by issuing a newer version (or VMS 12) at a cost, are you willing to take that risk? I have 9, 10, all have bugs of some kind and now 11 just came out.

Yep as many posts are saying Sony seemd to have moved to a model of releasing new versions rather than patches to existing versions which is very annoying, Vegas 10 (which for me has a bug on the very first thing you do) will be my last Vegas product. Guess if enough people vote with their feet they might take notice.

Answer from Sony Tech support:

"Hi Roberto,

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.

Unfortunately, this problem with the "Remove" button in the Stabilize Media window is a known issue with the Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 software. Although a solution to this problem has not yet been built into an update of the software (currently, we are on build 231, if you are able to download it from the website), I am sure that this problem will be addressed in an update as soon as possible.

Therefore, I recommend that you check for software updates regularly, so that you do not miss whatever future update holds the resolution to this issue inhibiting the removal of stabilization from video clips."

Hello Roberto:

A possible workaround . . .

Can you delete the affected clip(s), clean your project media of the clip, then add the clip again sans stablization? I had VMS 9 but never encountered this bug, but then again I haven't played around much with stablization.

Regards,

Kimberly

Hello Kimberly,

of course that's possible.
But you know... if the clip has been trimmed, maybe added some effects... everything shall be done again. Anyway, I hope Sony will issue a new patched release. From they answer (which arrived after few weeks) it looks like they are aware of this bug issues and are collecting other ones for a new release.

Reberto,
If you have effects applied to the clip, you can save the effects setting as and Effects Chain by clicking on the small "disc" icon. This way you can just re-add this chain to the event.

This is just a quick work around and by no means dismisses Sony Tech's obligation to fixing the issue.
