VP15 - worth the jump for speed?

Hi team,

Old VP13 user here, I used to contribute a lot to the old Sony forums. Working occasionally for cinema and broadcast projects, I use every nook and cranny of VP13. So weird features are important to me, especially if they disappear between versions!

I resisted VP14 and 15 upgrades as I got cold feet after seeing people lost their ac3 pro plugins (the ones that allow you to set up a Prologic stereo signal in 5.1, or set new levels for a clean stereo compatible signal in a 5.1 surround mix). I believe this might be fixable if you have the original install and rename some files.

I'm doing a lot of 4k work now for a kids show with compressed 100mbps video sources, and although my rig is capable, VP13 becomes a slideshow. It's really slowing me down - I'm constantly previewing in "Draft Quarter" res and its too slow. And then there's the frequent random crashes.

I saw the recent ad for VP16 soon and I always see the ads touting increased speed as the number one feature.

For the old VP13 professionals out there - is it worth the jump? Am I going to find needed features removed? Does the speed increase deliver over VP13?

Kind regards,

Ent

Apparently vp15 edit is $99US on steam, that sure sounds reasonable to be able to edit 4k video with smooth playback of timeline (depending on fitlers) & hardware HEVC & AVC rendering if you wanted to use it & you can do all that with a a cheap nvidia gtx1050 card (or so i've read)

For speed? No. For some other things, yes, if you need those things (I, for one, like its AVC renderer). But if you saw an ad for VP16, it is probably best to wait for that.

Just a FYI, nothing more (or less).
