what audio codec(s) does VMS recognize? Audio ends up all hiss

dale-weiss wrote on 12/21/2020, 10:34 AM

I am converting mini DVDs from home video camera using Movavi Video Converter and an external DVD drive successfully, but the audio is just hiss when I bring the mp4 into VMS 16.0. The video/audio play fine in VLC. There are three audio codecs I can select from (AAC, AC3, MP3), but none seem to work.

Windows

My VMS 16 plays the file you gave, no problem and nothing special.
These are the properties of the audiofile in the program

and this says MediaInfo about that file and the used codec for the audio

and this is the audio device that was used at my VMS installation told by Options/Preferences/Audio Device

Since you are converting, you better do not use AC3 as it might work now but not in the future.

thanks x 2.

Weird. so you are able to hear the audio? When I add this video to VMS 16, the audio track is just white noise. Could I be missing a CODEC library or something?

Yess, no problem

Could I be missing a CODEC library or something?

No idea, you did not tell which hardware you use and the specs for that as drivers a.s.o. In my signature is stated the hardware, Windows version and drivers.

Thanks, OK, if this will help!

Surface laptop, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro, Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 1060 (version 27.21.14.5167), Intel UHD Graphics 620 (version 26.20.100.7639)

Is there anything else I could provide to help you help me?

First download the right driverversion for your Nvidia GPU : Studio Driver Version: 460.89 - Release Date: 2020 December 15 .
For your Intel GPU : 27.20.100.9030 from 12/10/2020

Normally if you need a driver for the sources that are supported in Vegas and become installed with the program, Vegas makes contact to the base to allow that driver to work.
I did nothing special, but when I have a codec that is not supported I use the free converter Handbrake :https://handbrake.fr/
A lot of users here use that one with good results.

OK, thanks--Windows said I had the most updated driver, but I will dig deeper for those that you indicated.

OMG--that worked!!! I searched for the driver version you provided and dowloaded both of them. Thank you so much for paying attention to my request and responding so incredibly fast!!

Kudos to @j-v who's always willing to help troubled users in just finding solutions in VEGAS.

Strange, non of my NLE's plays that sound. But Vista's Movie maker 6.0 plays no problems.

j-v, I'm afraid I don't understand how GPU driver relates to AC3 playback as I just updated mine to 460 and still VMS16P wont play that AC3 sound.
