What Does Magix Need To DO To Get Plugin Developers Onboard

Richvideo wrote on 1/16/2018, 4:49 PM

I sent an inquiry over Digital Anarchy to ask them when they would be selling a OFX version of Samurai Sharpen which is a great video tool and this is what they said

"I'm sorry to say that we will not be releasing Samurai Sharpen for Vegas 15 at this time. We simply don't have enough interest in it yet. We're aware Vegas has been bought by a new company and that they're trying to gain market share in the NLE arena, so we're keeping an eye on it.

If we ever release software specifically for Vegas, Magix will let you know.,they've already been in contact with us. It's just isn't financially feasible yet."

They are not the only company who seem not to want to develop tools for Vegas anymore, I don't think that Red Giant has put out an official update for PluralEyes yet.

We really need these tools unless Magix plans on creating themselves, wouldn't be less expensive for them to pay these developers to port the plugins over than to try to create them themselves?

RedBullet just quietly updated PluralEyes to work with Vegas Pro 15 using the same fix as they used in 14. It works on install without any added effort in my experience.

There are "TONS" of plug ins for Vegas Pro. Sony used to have a page on their site that listed "Partner Products" and it was quite a long list.

But to answer the OP's question directly: the first thing Magix should do is also make a "Vegas Partner" page and list / link them all there - they could even go as far as Sony did and sell them directly (for a commission of course.)

Some plug-in producers have typically had a cold attitude towards Vegas (e.g. Red Giant), while others are highly dependent upon it.

Plug-in market for Vegas Pro is growing. One of the current examples is the planar tracker mocha which is available as Vegas plug-ins since several months now.

I should have looked into it more before posting, it does seem like Vegas has a bit of plugin support outside of Red Giant - Magic Bullet Looks seems to work with Vegas but not Colorista IV or Magic Bullet Denoiser III.

Re Kinvermark's comment, you might want to dig into the Partner Products of the bygone era.

It seems that it is mostly Boris and NewBlue support and indirect support via OFX ...Audio plugins usually work with little fuss on any NLE.

There are many 3rd party plug-in developers supporting Vegas Pro, just like HitFilm, GenArts, Tiffen, ProDAD, SeMW, Magic Bullet, BorisFX, NewBlueFX, VASST, Vegasaur – just to mention some of the video ones (and workflow).

I think that Magic Bullet Looks works but not Magic Bullet Film, Colorista IV or Denoiser III,-PluralEyes was ported after they had enough people asking them to do so, I don't link that Tiffen DFX is supported. Neat Video works with everything, they don't discriminate :)

I use Tiffen DFX intensively with Vegas Pro 14 and Vegas Pro 15 since two years now. It is my favorite color correction set in Vegas Pro.

They don't say that it does on their website, I guess it is an over site https://tiffen.com/dfx-products/

Because it's not own by Tiffen anymore but by DFT.

You'd need the OFX version of Tiffen DFX.

I think it is (OFX) still available here, where also the Vegas Pro support is mentioned.

You are correct

I had the understanding that VASST doesn't work with new versions of MSP and Vegas Pro. Is that not the case? I keep MSP 13 because I thought that it was the last version to work with VASST. I like the feature of VASST event tools that allows you to add transitions to all your clips simultaneously. Whether you have 10 or 200 clips, you can make them all with one click of a button with VASST event tools.
