What type of audio track is this?

I have a series of greatest hits of the 80s DVDs and the audio tracks sound really punchy and vibrant, I ripped the DVD using Sony Vegas Pro13 (see screenshot below).

On the DVD box cover the audio is listed as 'stereo and surround sound'.

If I wanted to burn the video with identical audio which settings should I choose?

I am playing the DVD back in stereo and clearly both tracks are being heard...

Use Handbrake instead of Vegas and select "Auto Passthrough" for your audio track. Vegas is not a muxer.
