Where did it go?

I regularly use SMSv12 and keep "Old projects" - just in case. On reviewing recently all was fine . . . except one, where the LH,top panel appear to have lost the Media - yet the Timeline is correct and plays correctly - it appeared to be an "Unfinished" project...
Looking for the Media-biins, I'm puzzled - so I revert "Layout" to one I used about a year ago- and as if by magic the whole program is off the screen.
By opening another copy of the (dot)vf file I am back to the layout with the missing Media-bins.... so maybe I should try switch to the original layout option . . . .

----but here's the issue, at the start-bar ( bottom of screen) I have SMSv12 and if I click on it the programs flies to the right ( off the monitor)...if I click again it flies back, ( from behind the screen, somewhere?) - but I get a fleeting glimpse as it returns to the Icon.

Where is it . . . .that's the Q.... I'm supposing that changing the Windows Layout ( Control Panel) ...might let me see the edge of the frame, but this requires restarting the PC every change...

For the life of me I can't understand "Why" I would move if out of view . . . and wonder also why the Media Bin went missing, leaving "Transitions" and Media Generator" tabs.

I managed to "close" SMS, but presume that particular (dot)vf file will always fall off the monitor screen.
Other programs appear to work on the screen correctly aligned.
I suspect this is a "Windows" fault in that the "origin" of displays can't be investigated and corrected- at least by me, they can't-yet.

Thoughts please.....

UKh,
I could not quite make head or tail of your post, but try a reset first.

"Q. Is there a way to reset the software to default settings and preferences?"

Your saved windows layouts in Vegas projects probably don't stick if you:
-- Change screen resolution in graphics properties; or,
-- Open the project gui on a different monitor.

Since you've said they're old projects, . . .

Thanks Guys,

1) I'm reluctant to RESET the program, but it may be the only solution....I started the process, but the pop-up window ( win7-32b) doesn't say what you wrote... ( well not at the start ), --- it asks if I want the program to make changes to my computer.....When I click on "more details" it seems to offer little explanation.
EDIT: _ Clicked "OK" and maybe it reset itself - but no result that I can see.
Fortunately v10 is still working correctly, so I'm forced to use that until v12 reappears. - and in case yr wondering the "old" project was done with v12. I used v10 with a Sony Stills camera until I treted myself to a Sony Camcorder CX410, before they forced Projectors on us.

2) Tried today the most-recent Edits (dot) vf files. They are similarly affected - by being off-screen . . . yet I'm sure I haven't changed screen resolution for months - and even if I did I'd hope that Windows was smart enough to recognise an extra monitor wasn't there ( IT seems to know their names/type, etc. which is semi-helpful when making changes )..
Can't understand why the program lost the Media-bins in the first place - I cannot imagine a situation where I wouldn't want them....So it was never "saved" like that and the layout I use is a small (dot)vf file called "Starter2014" which sets out the layout and provides several Bins as well as pre-written Text layouts with useful Notes - These are on the Time-line and are usually deleted after reading.

FWIW This "going-away" doesn't yet affect Sound Forge - or other Software like Text-processing - Indeed I don't recall any screen changes EVER making software unusable . . . hence my query, if anyone else knows how to fix it.

Oddly, when wanting to close the PC I normally close the programs at the bottom of the screen, by clicking on the small RED cross - Normally this shortens the list, if there are several opened.
Not anymore - SMS refuses to close the last 3 titles - other programs inc. Sound Forge Studio are not affected.

Cheers

Nailed It ! ( Looking that way )
Resetting the prog has NOT done it - the "hint" was given in the second Response ( Thank you,), that it was a "Display Setting" issue -

I checked Display ( Control Panel) as the screen appears to be very difficult to read - it was set to the highest setting - can't think I ever wanted that!
Also curiously the WIndows settings for "Multiple Monitors" is far from clear - BUT by using "Duplicte these Monitors" -( even though the Detect Option shows there is no second Monitor ) - seems to trick the Control Panel into putting Programs on the Screen I'm looking at . . . .

It remains to be seen if the Media Tab is present...on the one that went odd.

For a late-2015 Project it seems OK

So it appears the Control-Panel "Monitor" settings were changed - but why?

I used to run into trouble with my media bins disappearing as well. While I still don't know exactly why they would appear one second but then after switching to Video FX and returning back to Project Media would suddenly make them disappear, I would advise for you to try running Vegas in administrator mode (this is what seemed to reduce the occurrences of this happening for me (aside from doing a fresh install). I can give you wild guesses as to why this might happen relating to Windows folders, user privileges, environment variables, and whatnot, but I've simply come to accept this as a downfall of the Vegas software. I mean, it also crashes on me randomly for no apparent reason so there's a lot of things I've simply come to accept. /sigh
