My suggestion is to start with the current VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum version. Later, if he really needs a VEGAS Pro version, he can upgrade at a special price using his VMS P serial number. He'd have the two versions then more inexpensively than getting VPro as a "New purchase". Please see the product pages.

Anyway, always best to "Try before you buy".

Thank you for your reply, its really helpful. I can see now, how this would be a cheaper option. There is movie studio 17 platinum or movie studio 17 suite. Would either of these have the effects he wants? Also, do u know if u could up grade straight away or do u have to wait a certain amount of time before you can?

I just checked and the effects you mention should be in VMS P 17 as well. And he can upgrade after he has the serial number and has registered the program. I still recommend trying with the trial first (please read the link above). He can confirm himself which are the effects available AND confirm that his computer meets the current requirements (listed also in the product pages).

Feel free to swing back by if you have any further questions, and tell your son if he has any questions about how to do anything in VEGAS, we'd be glad to help.
