Why all the hubris and hurt over a program?

D7K wrote on 9/23/2016, 7:10 PM

This may sound elitist, but really all this out cry over the upgrade price of a program? Really? In the video/photo world where camera values fall so quickly (you can often find a camera that was a $1000 for only $250 just 4 years after introduction) and subscription software becoming the norm what is a few hundred dollars? If you don't like the program - use something else. Can not afford the program - use something else. Firms are in business to make) money and you have no idea what their cost structure or cash flow issues are. So do you buy Vegas and use it for 2 years and upgrade or do you pay Adobe $240 a year to use their program (I like Adobe and use PSCC). Seriously most of these rants are just that and you just have to man up and pay the cost. I spent a lot of equipment last year and the new models will be out within a year, but that cost for me is amoritized over my period of use. I know that manufactures/developers have to make a return - but I don't know the details of what it takes to be profitable. Want Vegas to stay around, pay the price - if not take your money else where.

The included New Blue and Mercalli PRO 4.0 are good products so the $250 price is still a deal. It just sounds like the squeeky wheels should move to DPR. I'll be glad when those who want to leave or are unhappy do, Vegas is a killer app and I wish them great luck.

D7K, I might just take your advice and stay with my Vegas Pros 10 to 13 and not upgrade to Vegas Pro 14. In that case I might come back later to see if I'm forgiven having previously been an existing user of the current version and get an offer to, and not an instruction not to, upgrade at a cheaper price to two versions than to one.

Sorry about the rant and not moving to DPR (though I'm already half-way looking from there). I hear they are not too partial there to those voicing their own opinion.

obviously those making a fuss are probably old farts like myself who believe in buying something of value that does what it's advertised to do at a price that reflects our ongoing purchasing of the product.

i'm one of those PITA who will return my $4 cup of coffee if it's not to my liking.

of course if i had a limitless supply of disposable income i might well buy things without first researching their actual value, as it is i run a business and in so doing intend to make a profit using tools that work at a price point that offers value for money. if, after many years of supporting a product that product doesn't live upto expectations i will first complain to the company and then voice my concern further afield.

but hey, us old farts really are a PITA aren't we? ;-)

Thank goodness people like you still exist. If a product doesn't live up to expectations or the price doesn't seem fair we have the right to complain. It's a basic part of consumer rights in most countries so I'm not sure why the OP is so upset about it.

D7K, I would not have said it better than that !

And as far as the summer deal I got, it was not $199 but $270 CA because of the exchange rate. So, $250 is still a little better 😉... and yes complaining is good, but bashing is something else.

I already own Mercalli V4, so that's not a good deal at all for me !

I know how much you have contributed to the community and if I were Magix I'd give you a copy

I am an old fart also. I owned and ran a medium sized business and have been a turn-a-round specialist for the last 10 years, I know how to evalute the cost benefit of a product/service. For me the time I have invested in learning Vegas is worth much more than a $100 or so. But DaVinci is free and very good - has to be the most cost effective solution right now

Many of posts expect a certain price point - who knows the price structure of purchase was? Some folks even claim that 14 should have been given free. Cuda has not been supported like OpenCL and folks with just a little research folks should know this. I want Vegas to succeed and am willing to pay a little more if I had to in order not to learn a new program. With Resolve and Fusion being free (don't need the full blown $1000 one), if I was willing to learn a new editing platforum that would be my choice.

I too am an old fart. Vegas user since v1.1. Meaning thousands of dollars and man-hours invested in a program.

My multitrack audio editor, cakewalk sonar, had a similar situation, multiple parent companies… long story short, they got it together, release rolling updates, and I just paid 99$ for Lifetime updates because I believe in cakewalk.

I don't believe in magix based on what they've done already. Seems like they want to squeeze every last dollar out of the current user base before writing vegas off as an international tax loss.  My 2 cents…
