Why Does My Blu Ray Stutter, Stop and Stutter.

Hi - I created an ISO with DVDA. the I burned it with ImgBurn at 2x on Verbatim BD-R with verify. All the other settings were default / Auto.

The picture quality is beautiful, BUT the player stops and starts every 5 seconds. I hear the player thrashing around, then is plays another 5 - 10 secs. then more thrashing. Other discs I have produced have all played ok. Guess I am doing something wrong this time, but I can not fathom what it might be.

My DVDA properties were:
Mpeg 2 using MainConcept
bit rate: 18.000
aspect 16:9
Frame: 29.75
Res: 1920 x1080

Player: Samsung BD 6500T. Cost about $180.00 3 years ago.

You have a Blu-ray player? You burned a Blu-ray disc media? You were not creating a DVD?

Disc thrashing and uneven play can be a symptom of poor media, poor compatibility with chosen player, or too high an average bit rate. Your bit-rate spec is weird - does not belong to a burn to a Blu-ray disc source on Blu-ray media - so not sure where you got that.

The average Bit-rate for a default burn in DVDAPro for Blu-ray disc is 25. The typical high will be 27.5 and the low will be 23.4 - Notice this variance is the expectation. If you are pushing the average bit-rate for burn to 26.5 which is not a lot of difference but then would have the variation between 25 to 29 is usually too high for reliable playback on set-top player.

Thank you very much for your reply. I should be clearer.

Yes it is a blu-ray disc. yes I have a blu-ray player.

I initially rendered the avchd video into an Mpeg2 using the Mainconcept codec set to Blu-ray 1920x1080 -60i 25Mbps widescreen.

When it came to creating the iso file, I used DVDA. In this case the properties were set to the default:

My DVDA properties were:
bit rate Mbps: 18.000
aspect 16:9
Frame: 29.75
Res: 1920 x1080
audio is pcm

I guess I should have upped the bit rate to match MainConcept.

I am using verbatim BD-R discs. I burn at 2x using imgburn

Any ideas why I am getting stuttering ??

Many Thanks !

vincej,
what is the make/model of your BD writer?
I see from your previous thread that you at least replaced the Verbatim BD-R LTH discs with the more reliable HTL ones.

My best guess would be the player. Have you tried the disc on a newer player?

Many thanks for your feedback.

I'm not too sure what the make and model is as it came bundled with my Dell XPS 8500. I think it is a Hitachi hl-dt-st br-re bh30n

I don't get a stutter problem when burning dvd's.

No - I have not tried on a newer player.
