Place the cursor at the spot you wish to center when you zoom. Pretty easy

Hi,

Is it possible for the zoom-in to be independent for the playing cursor? (the vertical line)

So its zooms to whatever is currently in view, regardless of the location of the playing cursot.

No, it always centers on the cursor.

The \ key, far right on the QWERTY row (I don't know the name) centers the waveform to the cursor.,, if that is what your seeking,

Another possibility is to use the mouse pointer to grab one of the edges of the timeline scroll bar and drag it. Only one side of your view will zoom. You can do the same with the other edge to expose only as much of the waveform as you want to see without disturbing the cursor position. Even simpler, if you zoom to the magnification you want but don't want it centered on the cursor... just point to the ruler markings on the timeline. When the mouse pointer changes to a little hand you can drag the view left or right without moving events or the cursor position.
