Vegas crashes when adding a video

Kenshin9977 schrieb am 04.04.2019 um 23:27 Uhr

Hi,

I have the issue on every version of Vegas from 11 to 16 and on the last 5 builds of Vegas 16. I have a GTX 2070 with an i7 6700K and 16 GB of RAM.

As soon as I put a video (not having the issue with audios nor images) on the timeline the software crashes without any error message. Windows output an app crash log which isn't really helpful. I only have an exception code c0000005 and when searching for it I can't find anything that solved my issue.

It was working last week but now it doesn't. I tried to uninstall everything that was updated in the meantime but nothing. I haven't changed any hardware nor BIOS setting.

I don't have any restore point that goes back to when it was working.

It works in safe mode but when I tried in diagnostic mode with msconfig it doesn't solve the issue. I also tried to disable every services that aren't Microsoft's and every app that lauch at startup but it didn't solved a thing.

I'm this close to format my computer but I have a pretty complex installation and reinstalling everything is pretty complicated so it would be a blessing to avoid such a thing.

Anyone have a possible solution ? I have a degree in computer science and software engineering so you can be as techie as you want with your answers.

Thanks in advance

What kind of video?
Which projectsettings you start with?
From where and how do you put "that video" to the timeline?

  • Any vidéo, different sources different codecs.
  • The default ones
  • Anywhere, through the explorer and by sliding it on the timeline

From the main FAQ post, p. #14: "If VEGAS Pro is behaving strangely you can try resetting it to the default settings." See also points #15 and #16 there.

(Quote: "I have the issue on every version of Vegas from 11 to 16 and on the last 5 builds of Vegas 16." Do you mean you checked also all the VP16 builds during the last week when this came up?)

  • I tried to reset the settings but it didn't solved the issue
  • Since it wasn't working with Vegas 16 I tried with previous builds and previous versions of Vegas but the issue is the same on every version

Other programs do work?
I think somewhere your Windows installation is not only a little disrupted.

Thanks. Just to confirm, did you get to delete the cached data?

@j-v Everything else is working fine and I'm extensively using my computer for other tasks (gaming, programming, streaming, watching videos, photo editing, running VMs)

@vkmast The little box I have to tick when resetting ? Yes

Unless/until someone comes up with a solution, you might go through item #15 in the main FAQ linked above to see if there's any advice there you could use.
