A DVD with Menu will not Open from the PC Folder

Staszek wrote on 3/7/2019, 3:40 PM

I authored many DVDs with different menus and content into the PC folder using the DVD Architect 7 but the VLC Media Player can't open them. Everything works excellent on the DVD Architect preview but after creating the DVD into the folder it will not play. I can play separately the vobs with movie. The VTS_01_0 vob can be played separately for a moment as a static, no links, menu. No chapters are created. It seems that this software is a big mistake. Is it possible that I do something wrong? The DVD-Lab Pro is working perfectly but it's not developed any more.

How are you opening the folder in VLC? File\Open Folder\ then navigate to the Video TS folder?

Staszek wrote on 3/7/2019, 5:42 PM

Yes, I open it the way you said. The VLC is displaying some errors that the date cannot be open and plays the menu for a moment and then plays the main movie with the first audio track.

Unfortunately I haven't made a SD DVD for years and my last one, which plays okay with VLC, was made with an earlier version of DVDA Studio. Consequently I'm unable to check any made with DVDA7 as I don't have any DVDs only Blu-ray. .

Have you tried selecting .IFO files rather than .VOB's (VIDEO_TS.IFO, VTS_01_0.IFO etc)

Cheers, Robbie

Yes, I have. The VLC Player shows the error: Your input data can not be opened or nothing happens.

Hmmm. All of the dvd folders created in DVDA build 84 that are currently on my hard drive play fine with functioning menus in VLC when opening from the .IFO files. Are .IFO files associated with VLC?

I'll see if I can figure anything out over the weekend.

Cheers, Robbie

Yes, the .IFO files are associated with VLC. I can play the DVDs from the folder created on my computer in DVD-Lab Pro and on the other computer in Adobe Encore but not the ones created in DVDA Build 100 and the one for January when I started using DVDA. I like the interface of DVDA more than the DVD-Lab Pro but it needs to work.

January would probably have been DVDA build 84. DVDlab was (and is=) a pretty powerful Authoring package but I stopped using it many years ago when they didn't incorporate blu-ray authoring. Unfortunately very little work is being done by anyone these days on further development of disc authoring software. Not sure where to start since everything is working as expected here on VLC 3.0.6 but will play around a bit more later this weekend.

Thank you Robbie for your reply. Do you know if there is Vegas support I can ask why the DVDA does not work?

DVD with the menu I start by right-clicking on the parent folder. This works without problems.

To create DVDs with chapters, markers can be set in the project. These must then be output during rendering. There is a render option: Save project markers in rendered media file

Alternatively, the markers can also be added / edited by right-clicking in the timeline of DVDA.

@matthias-krutz Strangely (in retrospect) I never thought to try it this way but yup, right clicking the parent folder and then selecting "Play With VLC Media Player" works with all the DVD folders currently on my hard drive. I think Staszek's issue with chapters was that starting the files from the hard drive didn't recognise the chapters.

@Staszek If Matthias's suggestion doesn't work try contacting infoservice@magix.net or the support form.
