All frames distorted in Sony Vegas

Haven't had this problem before. Am preparing a Sony Video project in PAL Widescreen 720 x 576 x 32. Watching it in the preview frame I find that all the images are distorted, being thin and vertically stretched. The maintain aspect ratio is on. Can anyone tell me what has caused this and how I can correct it? Thanks.

What are your Video Project Properties? Do you have them set to Match Media?

If they match, please open the video in G Spot or Media Info and note the Pixel Aspect Ratio. Does it show 4:3 or 16:9 or something else?

"Adjust source media to better match project or render settings" is on. Please forgive my ignorance in not knowing where to Find G Spot or Media Info. Can you elucidate?
