Architect update gone wrong

Am posting this as "general Interest"
(It is subject of Tech Help request)
Used Build 128 for over 1-year then noticed it would stop partway (oddly you can't copy the Error Msg, so I snapped it)..Error Msg appears to suggest:"unmanagedException 0xccccfffe. C:\Windows\system32\KERNALBASE.dll - 0x750AD36F Offset 0x0000D36F
-
Having accepted Sony's offer to Build 157 - I downloaded it, it appeared to Install and now its gone. PC switched Off and ReBooted...Not in Sony/folder,
EDIT:
Next day:- Tried to re-install DA from prgram-disc- but it won't: "please uninstall later version..." Well, I can't find this "later version" (OR the earlier one) and neither can VegasStudio....I'm running Win7/32.Plenty RAM+HDD...been OK for a year, then AS fails to burn DVDs.
(This Site) Tech Support has failed me three times, with their ever-so-lengthy Form-Filling. I'm at the point of giviing up. The Form states "..there is a problem..."
yes there sure is when the software you buy is corrupted by the vendor. Why doesn't Sony admit this build 157 is not an "UpDate" - rather it's a wrecker. Does Sony seriously think I'm going to stop making movies? Well, they're right I shan't be using theirs unlkess something happens pretty soon.
If I need to remove an earlier install, then you remove it (with my permission) and please, don't expect the averge cameraman to know the innerds of their PC, which incidently you wrecked. Grr!

Thanks friend,
it seems the same fault happened with 156 as well.
Why is it called a UpDate? Clearly you should uninstall the earlier version - that would make things easier...so the UpDate should refuse to install if the earlier version is present...
Unfortunately my DA(S) has completely disapeared, so I can't remove it- and the Install Disc won't work(tried today) . . . . Sony support still refuses to recognise my password . . . who is being protected, I wonder?

Shall I go back to drawing in pencil?
EDIT:21June2012.
I wonder, now that it's been a while, does anyone know if I can download a fresh "Trial" copy of VS-PS that might tide me over if Sony is going to take a while . . . OR more likely will it refuse to install as there is v10 sitting there? I have another drive which has oodles of space ( for Clips, renders, etc), would that suit?
I'm reluctant to "Just try it" as that's how I got into this mess.

BTW....anyone reading? I heard (but have not read confirmation), that there is a bug in recent Win7 update that causes DVD Architect to stall about 80% way through - that's what mine did to start with and I realised my build was more than 20 behind - hence accepting the upgrade...click.

harry,
I for one have VMStudio Platinum versions 10 and 11 installed in different folders with no problems.

But I still think you should follow the instructions given in a couple of threads to get rid of the previous version of DVD AS. As DVD AS 5.0 build 157 is working for many, it is unlikely to be withdrawn.

If you will be able again to install a version of DVD AS, you might want to still install build 128, if you have that on disc (and don't update, I didn't, due to the AVCHD disc possibility). The available versions of Vegas software are here
http://download.sonymediasoftware.com/current/
and it seems the build 128 is not available to download any more.

I'm still waiting for a Tech Support Reply - 10 days so far, and as I can't see anywhere to put "Ticket Number" I've dared send a second request.

I don't mind which version I use, although I don't recall build 128 provided AVCHD option - it was either DVD or BlueRay (maybe the AVCHD was in the pull-down options, Dunno.....but any new software I buy MUST have that AVCHD Disc options as I've played some on my TV and the quality is great - can't wait to view my NEX5 footage which I Render to HDD in HD quality.

The issue is that I don't have DVDAS in the Sony-program list, and Vegas can't find it either. BUT if I try to re-install from Disc, it says it is already installed.

Whilst cleaning out the registry (etc.) might be "interesting" I'm having to perform a process that I don't understand and suspect will create further problems.
CCleaner does come with praise and some warnings!

The original problem may still be present: that build 128 would hang about 80% through the burn - wasting considerable time. Because of this, I checked this site and foolishly took the "Update for free" Option - after that did its stuff, DVDAS was gone!

Hence the Title: Update gone wrong.

What I don't unerstand is why the original installation wasn't cleaned out FIRST, then the update enabled - shouldn't be too difficult to have both options alive on the HDD, with just One having preference. Once the second one is working I can "uninstall" the earlier one . . . ..

Thanks for your interest.

Did you click on the My Account > My Support link at the top of the page to check on the status? Ten days is not much in SCS days so, unfortunately, you have to be patient.

However, I can understand your frustration in not being able to get a working copy of DVDAS.

I recommend you install the free version of Revo Uninstaller to wipe out DVDAS.

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Oh, if you're on Win7 by chance, I will bet you that SCS will suggest that you create a new user account and install it there.

Good luck.

Win7 32-bit DVD Architect Studio v5 build 157

My update as of 1 July 2012

Thanks MSmart,,
- just this weekend, on relating this sorry tale to club members I've been talked through the removal process (now that Add/Remove is hidden, so it seems). As a result I've "found" the remains of DVDAS which had all but disapeared.
This enabled me to reinstall Architect from the disc I bought.(build 128)
However, after registration the exact same fault reappears - that it stops part-way through - so I sent the "Report" to Sony (this being the website they directed it to), and their suggestion was "as before:" to install the Free Update build 157.
On doing this it whirrs-away and needs to restart . . . .( Yep, you guessed it, -it has wiped DVDAS from the Sony Program List.)

So as I had suspected this is a Software fault, caused by that update build 157 . . . but I doesn't give me any other Options and . . . .if you say 10 days is rather short time to get a reply, I think folks should be aware of this before buying software, when the Updates effectively erased what I've paid for. Sony is very quick to "Authorise" a Build, presumably this is automated - and to add insult - yesterday Vegas Studio made me some July Offers to upgrade to "Pro" for just USD---.

I have a Sony movie camera, a Sony /DVDPVR and Sony Studio Software which now is sitting in the box.
Thanks for yr interest, I believe the original fault was due to MS Update, but can find no confirmation of this - so it's a Guess. That Update (build157) appears to be faulty when in the bowels of my 32-bit PC.

I had this issue with Build 157 too on my old PC and it was never fixed then either. I just built a beefy new Win7 64-bit Ultimate SP1 PC so it is a completely clean install. I tried once again to patch my DVD Architect Studio 5.0 Build 128 to 157 and it does the same stupid thing, deleting the shortcuts and ruining the program.

Interestingly, when I try to extract files from the "dvdarchitectstudio5.0.157.exe" patch, I get the error, "Data error in 'ac3studioplug_ac3studioplug.dll'. File is broken" so I believe this patch is corrupt. I bought the suite that also includes Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 and Sound Forge 10, but luckily those patched fine. One bad side effect is after re-installing it so many times, it looks like my serial has been black-flagged and I have to enter that super long verification number each time now too.

Sorry for the caps, but SONY, PLEASE PULL THIS BROKEN "BUILD 157" PATCH AND PROVIDE A FIXED VERSION!!!!! IT IS BROKEN, FAULTY, CORRUPT, DESTRUCTIVE AND USELESS! Don't you care about your paying customers?
tvsurfer wrote on 7/11/2012, 4:50 PM
I got an auto response basically saying I should upgrade from version 10.0 to version 11.0 so I updated my ticket asking someone to at least try out patch 157. I don't think it's a lot to ask that patch not be corrupt and ruin the existing install.
UKharrie wrote on 7/24/2012, 11:57 AM
tvsurfer, I've come back in the "hope" that maybe Sony Guys have fixed it, but it looks like they don't want to know - somewhat odd as I'd expect keeping customers is cheaper than finding new ones.
I read about another gripe I have with DVDAS in that their Pro-version doesn't seem too clever when a BD file is close to the limit - surely an issue that needs addressing, or maybe they expect us to throw the BD discs away and buy more!

I have been able to provoke the failure in DVDAS v10 (128) whicj give the pretence of working and did until a few months ago as I started having more menu buttone. It seesm the fault is with these buttone (although I've only tried once) - by creating a HDD-version (ie prior to burning, so saving loadiing it). Yet almost exactly the same fault was reported in Kernelbase.dll with the nearly same address.... so maybe there is a bug in the Menu, or I'm not using it correctly - - - which is easy enough the Program is close to hopeless as a User Interface... The Author needs some lessons from VegasStudio which practically sings to me.
Indeed, I was thinking of upping my game to "Pro" but this experience of indifference (or Overwork, it matters not), isn't what I expect from a large Corporation.
I bought a Sony camera for movies, but the next one will probably be Pana - seems to be popular in Clubs so I may join them.

How are you now making Discs?

Was It you who resorted to buying a 64-bit Win7 PC? - he needs to know DVDAS is 32-bit and SO is DVDAPro - only Vegas Pro is 32/64 (since about v8 I believe)....
BTW I tried DVDAS on an XP SP3 m/c which is in-spec and that failed the very first time I used it. Sony Min-Spec is wrong!.
+My friend has deleted it, he needn't bother, it is worthless - but maybe he wanted the disc-space, that's it.
