Are these bugs in VP19 but not in VP18?

FayFen wrote on 12/22/2022, 12:02 AM

đŸ˜±I just read this in reddit

"I acquired VP19 to better support my hardware........WHY THE HELL CAN'T I TRIM MULTIPLE SELECTED EVENTS?!?!?! I press "D" twice for the box select tool, select the items I want trimmed, press CTRL-D for the pointer tool, I grab the end handle of a selected event and ONLY THAT EVENT trims/stretches! All previous version of Vegas I've used, all the way back to SVP11, will resize every event selected. Except for VP19. WHY?? This is also true if I shift-click a column of events to select them.

While on the topic of timeline event selection, in VP18 I can deselect all selected tracks and/or events with the ESC key. This is useful for me to put my cursor where I want it and then "S" to split all events. VP19 won't deselect anything without clicking an empty space on the timeline - which then moves my cursor to that point! this is a massive headache to my editing workflow."

Can you confirm that indeed these worked in VP18 and now it's done differently in VP19? and how in VP20?

I have just VP19, Thank you.

I don't ever remember it working that way. I remember being able to change settings such as composite level, envelopes, etc. that way, but not trimming.

Back in the days (30 years ago..) when I used AVID MC, one of it's strength was being able to multi select "events" all across the timeline and tracks and trim them all together as needed.

*This is very handy for J/L cuts

All previous version of Vegas I've used, all the way back to SVP11, will resize every event selected.

On trying the suggested procedure (double D, select, Ctrl+D) in Vegas Pro 16, only the one event trims, not all the events highlighted by the box.

@Dexcon What if the events are on different tracks above each other?

What if the events are on different tracks above each other?

2 tracks one above the other + an empty track above and below (i.e. tracks 1 and 4). I also tried with Auto Ripple (all tracks) both on and off.

I checked these options in V12 and neither one works the way the OP claims they did.

@Dexcon, I am trying to reproduce the problem that was reported, but I must be missing a step or something. I've tried this in VP 16, 18 and 20, and I am seeing consistent behavior.

I've never seen it work that way. Now you can do this:

1. Select them all

2. Press "G" to group them

3. Hold down the CTRL key to "time stretch/shrink" them and they will ALL be adjusted.

But, as far as I know, just trimming will only trim one event

Having said that, if the events are across multiple tracks AND they are grouped, it will resize all of them so they end at the same time by resizing one of them.

But the key in both cases is: They must be grouped!

VEGASDerek wrote on 12/22/2022, 1:21 PM

I am unable to duplicated any of the behavior this person claims was in pre-VP 19 releases including all the editing items and the deselection via esc.

All that said, it does not mean the arguments about how VEGAS works in this instance are not without some validity, though I do not put a lot of stock into someone using pirated versions of VEGAS Pro.

Does "Privateered Version" mean a pirate version. I've never come across the phrase before.

vkmast wrote on 12/22/2022, 5:45 PM

@EricLNZ I had trouble falling asleep and got of bed to find this definition for privateering: "Activities by armed but privately owned vessels commissioned for war service by a government. Really a species of legalized piracy."

Btw, "vesseli" means "energetic juvenile" in local dialect here, so maybe that explains this individual's interest in privateered versions/delinquency? (If all of this makes no sense, put it down to sleepiness.)

Yes it does in this case. Reddit lingo.
