Autodownload Hell

martin-g1565 wrote on 5/21/2021, 1:21 PM

For over a year now--whenever my Vegas Pro 17 crashes--I receive a prompt from the application, inviting me to click on a link--whereby Vegas automatically begins to download the very Version/Build # I have installed, which is annoying since I have to then cancel the download.

When I recently installed the Windows 10 update to VP 17, I thought this would stop the autodownloading. It continues.

Truly, how can this have escaped the attention of the engineers between the time 17 was released and now--when the Windows 10 fix for VP 17 has been released?

VP 17, Build 455. But the build doesn't seem to matter. With each successive build the same thing occurs. Appears to me like Magix has figured that whatever build one has (even if it's the latest) that one can benefit from a download of the latest build (again!)

If I was an engineer (or the CEO of Magix) I would want to hear comments like mine. Corps pay for stupid surveys all the time. Why don't you do something creative instead of having to play scolding loyalist re: my post.

IMO excellence comes from challenging dissent--mediocrity from compliance.

LOL! 😆 There's definitely some regulars on this forum who seem to respond to every post, like it's their job and they're miserable with their job.

Anyways....that aside.

I have been recently trying out the VP18 latest build 527 where I was getting frequent crashes. Not once after a crash did it prompt me to download an update after a crash. So maybe the problem you're experiencing has been corrected in VP18 or maybe there's a possibility something isn't quite right with your install of VP17 where it thinks you're not on the latest VP17 build. You may want to consider uninstalling and reinstalling VP17.

However, I will say Acid Pro also from Magix has some similar "issues". Magix released the latest build of Acid Pro, where they unannounced removing a major feature from the program in the update due to some licensing problems between them and the company who's technology they were using for that feature. Many customers confused and a bit upset. So if you don't update to the latest build, then you don't lose the feature. The problem there is that every time you launch the previous build version, it gives you the "There's an update available, do you want to install?" notification message you now need to click through before the program launches. Your notification only seems to happen on crashes...there it happens everytime you launch the program. 😆 And the best part, there's no way to turn off update notifications in the program. So you're stuck with the choices of update and lose a product feature, or deal with the nag notification every time you launch the program. 😆

Thank you for that. That's the kind of forced bind that might definitely make one cynical or bitter. However, nothing a bit of transparency and respect for user intelligence couldn't fix.

Please read e.g. here or here.

(Maybe for you better to continue with your issue in your own thread.)

I purchased the 14 version in 2018 as I was learning to edit and decided after taking a 14 month break i would upgrade to the 17; worst decision EVER. Purchased and was sent the order through email. Followed the instructions and after everything was downloaded I attempted to open the software and it asks me to register, i put in the serial number and i get ERROR CODE:-14 saying the serial number is invalid. To my surprise there is no phone support to help with this issue, no one answers emails and i am stuff with a useless program; I deserve a refund and they can have this crap back. I am so disgusted and irritated right now.
