Before I buy

luis-s wrote on 2/8/2017, 4:35 PM

Helll Im thinking to invest buying Vegas pro edit but i have a couple of questions:

1- I read Sony sold its products to you (MAGIX). Vegas will keep being updated or at some point it will get discountinued in favor of another product?

2- Is there any plans to go to the subscription route at some point? I will be glad to invest but not willing to go to the subscription model.

Thank you

it's doubtful if ANY software can be guaranteed to be sustained indefinitely, but vegas IS being supported at the moment and that's a good sign. since a great many people are still happily working with 13, and a quite a few with earlier versions, then i think you're probably safe to invest...

Sonic-Foundry -> Sony -> Magix. Every time Vegas was very good supported, because it's a wonderful software. The conception was perfect since the version 1 (audio multi-track) and it keep the same philosophy until now. Vegas was a winner from the begin. His problem is just that is not enough known by the public. Specially by the professional public, what a pity. I am a professional and I worked on all the professional editing software and none attract me like Vegas. You can safe invest.

I am happy with Vegas 14, I still have 13 installed, but 13 is pretty unbearable to use (13 lacks support for high DPI scaling) due to my ultra wide monitor.

I normally have my ultra wide scaled to 125% for my 55 years eyes...

The better support for high dpi monitors is reason enough to upgrade.

Thank you all! yeah, seems that Vegas Pro will be the one. My primary use will be for screencasting and Vegas gives me more control, it is a "shame" I can't edit the mouse within Vegas like Camtasia but it is not really a biggie.

Saludos!

I can't edit the mouse within Vegas like Camtasia

Camtasia is a screen recorder, so it knows where on the screen the mouse pointer is at any time and, therefore, can place a highlighter over its position. Vegas is a video editor, working with a series of pixels. There is no mouse in the video, so of course you cannot edit it in Vegas.
