All DVDs are MPEG2.

From SCS KB #4415
"Burning AVCHD content to disc"

There are workarounds, if you really want it.
There are caveats¹ too, as you will notice.
Search for threads such as
Blu Ray on DVD

And lots more.¹¹

A caveat for any newcomers reading ¹¹)this.
AVCHD Discs aka BD5 discs are pretty much things of the past. Not all BD players will play them and recordable BD discs are now much cheaper than they were, so the economics are less favourable

Burning to DVD DL would be more for one's own use, and not for client delivery.
Support across players is spotty.

So, I should render in AVI format?

No. Read chienwork's post.

Hmmmmm. I made the assumption that Scotch wanted to make a Video DVD of his work, which would be SD, and indeed MPEG2 only.

Based on some of the other answers now i'm wondering if his intention is to put HD video of short duration on a DVD disc as HD instead of burning it to BluRay. It's possible, but tricky, and of very little use. It's probably easier and better in the long run to buy a BluRay burner and media and do it the right way.

OP is asking for a dvd-dl.
The instructions for doing so abound.
