Bizarre New Vegas Audio Glitch

I'm using a pirated version of vegas pro 13 with Windows 10, yes I searched for this issue.

I'm a youtuber, and my process involves dropping an audio file of my narration into the timeline, and then editing video to it. I've been entirely fine for over a year on this setup and didn't change any settings as far as I'm aware, but as of recently, if I have any splits in the audio, it will randomly skip and double play that audio if I play it back. This will only happen 1 out of every 3 or 4 times, but what that means is that when I render the video, some of those splits will end up resulting in audio skips, and I have no way to control it. Can any of you think of any weird issue, or some setting, that could be causing this?

@tery-c  ... I take it that when you steal a car that you are in the habit of contacting the owner and asking them how to operate the entertainment system or cruise control etc of the the car that you have just stolen.
