I am making a 3 minute music video of a picture and want to lighten one closeup but just when pan crop is focused on it. Can that be done without effecting the rest of the video? If so how?
You can add effects at the media, track, event, or output bus level, depending on your needs. If it is only part of an event you need, just split it to the desired duration.
Envelopes and effects automation are advanced features to be found in Vegas Pro, but not Movie Studio.
It might be helpful to think of pan/crop not as a "selection" of an area of the video but as a way of zooming and repositioning the the video.
Effects in both Movie Studio and Vegas Pro can be automated by the addition of keyframe events. Those events (you can read about them in Help) set the effect's parameters at a specific point in time.
It seems like you could achieve what you describe by adding the Brightness and Contrast effect to your video track, setting the brightness value to be automatable, then adding 4 keyframe events.
- One event just before the time that pan/crop is used for the close up.
- One event just as the close up begins.
- One event just before the close up ends.
- One event just after the close up ends.
The first event is used to keep the brightness adjustment at zero until the time for the close up occurs.
The second event sets the new brightness to whatever value you need during the close up.
The third event keeps the brightness at the increased value during the close up.
The fourth returns the brightness to its original value (zero) for the remainder of the video.
Hope this makes sense; best of luck with your project.
