Can I Remove Annoying Pop-up windows in Project Media WIndow?

JohnAsh wrote on 9/16/2019, 11:23 AM

It's been driving a bit barmy. When I am looking for something in the Project Media window, my view is constantly blocked by pesky little windows by the cursor giving me file information I don't want.

I was hoping that, by turning off "Show pop-up descriptions for folder and desktop items" in Windows Explorer settings, these would go away. But they haven't. Can I be the only one to find these pop-ups intensely annoying and intrusive? I have searched but found nothing. (I'm using VP 16, latest incarnation).

I'd be very grateful if anyone can point me to a solution. Thanks.

Maybe you're in 'Details' in your project media tab under 'Views'.. Try to switch to 'List' or 'Thumbnail' here in the cursor

Thanks ram17. Yes I use Details view and switching to List or Thumbnail certainly gets rid of those windows. But I make a lot of use of the Date and Use Count columns. Maybe I've just got to carry on "putting up with it"!

By the way, is there a quick way of getting rid of unwanted columns in the Details view? I can right click and click on View then untick one, but I have to do this for every single column and I have better things to do with all the time that would take!

There is something you may try, I hope it works for you too. Open Vegas in a new project & right click your unwanted columns in project media then after that close Vegas then restart your pc. Works for me.

Just carry on with the pop up, there's no remedy with that in Details view AFAIK

The popups were intended to show the full content of the cell if part of it was hidden because the column width was too narrow. However, I believe the functionality is broken a bit here. I my research shows that the calculation for this is not accurate and so the popups are show up more often than they should. And I agree, we should provide a way to turn these off, as they can be quite annoying.

Thank you for bringing this up. We will add some items in our feature backlog. Not sure when we can get to working on this, but we will have this on our radar.

Thanks. Did just right-clicking remove the column? All I'm getting is the usual window with the "View" option.

Thanks. I'm so pleased this annoyance is recognised as a problem. I look forward to a resolution. At the same time, could you please find a quick way of removing all those columns in the Details view of the Project Media window?

@JohnAsh Open Vegas in a blank project, go to project media--right click on any of the column name itself (like Name, Use Count, Type etc) , then there will be options, choose 'View' & untick all the columns that you don't want, restart pc after that.

ram17, I think his concern is that you can only tick one at a time and then the window closes and you have to do it again.

You can untick multiple columns to remove at a time in the options, I have tested it. If you do that in one time, Vegas will remember it, then it's your set for every new project.

Okay, you can't in my version which is older. Are you using 16 or 17?

I can't find how to untick multiple columns in one go! I have VP16, latest update.

I have found no way in VP17. I deselected the columns one by one, changed the order and adjusted the width and then closed Vegas. Vegas saves the settings when closing the program. To do this, open only one instance of Vegas so that the settings are not overwritten with those of an another instance, which will be closed afterwards.

Me neither, only another one by one option from online Help: "Specific fields can be hidden by dragging them off of the Project Media window."
