Can I Resequence Marker Numbers?

Hi guys, the marker function where you hit M and can immediately put a note at a specific point is very useful. However the markers are numbered by the order you put them in, and not where they fall on the timeline.

Frequently as I'm editing, I add a marker earlier on the timeline as a late decision. But the number of that marker will simply be the last numbered marker. The way I would prefer it would be in sequence from left to right so it helps me with the order of steps I need to do e.g. insert a B roll clip or photo, etc.

Can I renumber all the markers such that they ascend from the start of the timeline, to the finish? I haven't been able to find such a function.

@GFM The extra add in programs, Vegasaur and HOS allow that and a whole lot more.

Btw, there's a Search ("Find...") feature on the forum. It's far from perfect but still.

Excalibur has a tool to renumber markers sequentially after they have been added to the timeline. You should also be able to use the Edit Details screen, copy the markers, paste them in a spreadsheet, reorder as desired, and then copy/paste them back into the Edit Details screen if you wish to do it manually.

Actually, it is extremely easy to do, but as Kelly points out, there is absolutely no reason to do it, other than making you feel better about having the numbers increase along the timeline, left to right.

Here's the trick:

1. Open the Edit Details view (Alt-6, or go to the View menu).

2. Select "Show: Markers".

3. Click on the blank space that is at the intersection of the row and column headings (in the upper left corner of the Edit Details window, just under the word "Show:". This will select everything

4. Press Ctrl-X to Cut everything. Immediately press Ctrl-V to paste everything back.

That's all there is to it. Your markers should now be in order. You have accomplished absolutely nothing, but perhaps you will be able to sleep better at night ... ;)
