Can't render on new computer

Cara-Borre wrote on 8/24/2020, 1:12 AM

I was using Vegas Pro 11 on a Windows 7 computer and upgraded that computer to Windows 10, now Vegas isn't working properly. When trying to render to mp4, it says there's an error which can't be determined. I am getting a message from Sony which I have to agree to each time I'm opening the program which makes me think something is wrong. When I click the "About Vegas Pro" button it says:

Operating System
  Platform: Windows 8 (64-bit)
  Version: 6.02.9200
  Language: English
  System locale: English
  User locale: English

Again, I have upgraded this computer to Windows 10 so this may be related to the problem. How can I resolve this and start using Vegas again?

Thank you,

Cara

You may try right clicking on vegas.exe and going into properties, then telling it to run VEGAS in compatibility mode for windows 8.

Another idea is to reinstall VP 11 and try again.

I don't see how to try fr0sy's suggestion and I'm not sure where to get a link to reinstall vegas 11 RogerS. This was installed years ago probably upgrading from another link on a older program. Any detailed instructions on how to accomplish this would greatly be appreciated. Also does Sony have a support number that could be called in real time to talk with a tech?

Thanks for all suggestions.

See if you can use the options to download mentioned in sections 3 or 4 here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-where-can-i-download-vegas-pro-and-other-vegas-software--104782/

The other thing I'm not opposed to is trying to upgrade to some newer version however there are so many choices from Vegas Pro, to Vegas edit, to Movie Studio, I have no idea which to get or if I qualify for an upgrade. I primarily make Youtube products which are a mix of video shot with Go Pro or iPhone and still photos from other digital cameras, I use minimal effects but do use transitions, velocity altering and, crops...

I'd really like to talk to someone at Sony for help as I'd really not like to spend the money if unnecessary.

Sony won't help you with this issue. If you consider upgrading to a newer version, see https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-movie-studio/?_oB=movie-studio-platinum or https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-pro/?_oB=vegas-pro-edit

(You'd need Windows 10 OS for these though.)

@vkmast provided you a link where you can download Vegas Pro 11 installer (from web archive).

Have you tried to download and re-install it already?

I can't find a link to Vegas Pro 11 installer. When I click on @vkmast links it's just the newer products. I really don't think I fully utilize, or would need to fully utilize the program. Vegas pro 11 suits me, I just need to be able to render my projects like I did before I upgraded my computer to windows 10. If there is a Vegas Pro 11 installer web archive as you've described, could you please include a link again?

Thank you!

@Cara-Borre Did you try the correct link. You start with the one in vkmast's earlier post which takes you to Nick Hope's FAQ. There you will find the following which appear to work with the wayback machine.

fifonik wrote on 8/24/2020, 11:10 PM

Hm. You can try to find in the page (navigate to the page, then press Ctrl + F and key in "Vegas Pro 11"). It mentioned 3 times in the page and there are 2 links: one to 32-bit version and another to 64-bit version. The link is in the first vkmast's post, no reason to post it again.

Nevermind, I found the link, uninstalled, reinstalled, added my registration, tried to render in MP4, no cigar. Still says computer format is windows 8 and there's an undetermined error. I think I'll do a trial of a newer version then cough up the $ if it works. Would you recommend Vegas Pro 18 or Movie Studio for my limited utilization? I guess I could try both before I buy or...?

EricLNZ wrote on 8/24/2020, 11:23 PM

Movie Studio won't open your old VP11 ".veg" files.

Download the VEGAS Pro 18 demo here. Keep in mind the system requirements:

Operating system: Microsoft® Windows 10 (64-bit)

Processor: 6th Generation Intel Core i5 (or AMD equivalent) or better. 2.5 Ghz and 4 Core minimum. For 4K, 7th Generation Intel Core i7 (or AMD equivalent) or better. 3.0 Ghz and 8 Core minimum.

RAM: 8 GB RAM minimum (16 GB recommended; 32 GB recommended for 4K)

Hard drive space: Hard drive space: 1.5 GB hard-disk space for program installation; Solid-state disk (SSD) or high-speed multi-disk RAID for 4K media

NVIDIA

NVIDIA® GeForce GTX or RTX 9XX series or higher with 4GB (8GB or higher, RTX series recommended for 4K)

That possibly needs clarifying. There is a post here which took that to mean *any* GTX is supported, or RTX 9XX series or higher is supported (which of course is invalid since RTX starts with 20XX series).

Maybe better: "NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 9XX series or higher with 4GB, or RTX series with 4GB (RTX series with 8GB recommended for 4K)"

I was able to download Vegas 11 after unistalling my original version and I still can't render to mp4. I can render to avi but the quality isn't as good. The message that pops up says "an error occurred while creating the media file test1.mp4. The reason for the error could not be determined."

Any other suggestions on troubleshooting this? I tried Vegas 18 and I do not want to upgrade, it's beyond what I need for youtube videos.

Forget about Windows 8. It's just a smoke screen. My ancient working system says the same thing and I haven't intervened with it after doing an in-place upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 Pro. .

You haven't told us anything about the hardware in your system or the type of video card you have.

Try this Mainconcept AVC/MVC Internet render template:

It still works for me.

Cara-Borre wrote on 9/9/2020, 10:06 AM

John, you fixed it!!!! Thank you so much!!! The only thing that was off from your settings and mine was having to click "custom template" and selecting "render using CPU only" vs "automatic" as I had selected. I don't know how this was changed from what I used in the past. When I started a second render of a different project, it returned back to the original settings and I had to change them again. I'm sure there is a way to save these settings, I had 1080 internet as a favorite before.

Thank you so much for that detailed help, pictures say a thousand words!
