Can't see the start and end of pans while editing due to transitions

Raptor88 wrote on 2/4/2017, 10:14 PM

Running Movie Studio Platinum 12, build 1184, editing slideshows.

When I edit a pan on a photo, I click the pan/crop rectangle in the photo on the timeline and the pan/crop window opens. I click "sync cursor" at the bottom left and when I move the slider, I can preview the pan in the preview window.

Problem is I have fade transitions so when the slider is at the start, I see the previous photo. When the slider is at the end, I see the next photo. Is there a way to temporarily disable transitions so I can see the entire pan of the photo I'm editing in the preview window from start to end?

To quote Cornico, "I did not find such adjusting." To see the previous event though, I could drag the next event with the transition to the right on the timeline (Auto Ripple enabled). Place a marker first at the start of the transition. After editing the event you need, I'd drag the rest back to the marker. It helps to see what's happening if you Expand track layers (right-click on the track header). You might also r-c on the transition then (on the "x" track/line) to find more options.

Hi vkmast,

Your method-1 works, though it adds extra steps to the process. A bit time consuming if adjusting pans for a lot of photos. But thanks for this tip.

I tried method-2 (rt click on transition) and selected "convert to cut". But that places a keyframe at the cut so when convert back to cross fade is selected, the pan adjustment does not extend to the end of the crossfade.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do want I want. Thanks though for your suggestions.

f you do not want to do it all manually, you might like the VASST FasstApps StillMotion plugin (available from Sony site Partner Products). It may just do what you want. http://vasstsoftware.com/product/stillmotion/

I checked the "Still Motion" link. The video shows the interface. I don't see any way in the interface to edit panning without the transitions blocking the beginning and ending of the event in the preview window. I also don't see a way to control the speed of the panning in the Still Motion interface.

From what I can see, with the sparse amount of info presented, Still Motion does the "Insert > Slideshow" but can do it on the timeline. As opposed to MSP12 able to do it only when inserting the photos "to" the timeline.

Thanks again for your help.

StillMotion allows you to add your pictures from Filesystem to the timeline for editing . Uncheck Apply Transitions and Overlap boxes before adding. Edit and then choose Timeline as Image source. Set your overlap and transition and Apply. Transitions were not blocking the editing.

It's 2 a.m. here, I'm off to bed.

I'm trying to find a user manual for Still Motion to see if it can do the four things I want:

.. 1. Apply "random fade with pans" to all photos with a click or two.

.. 2. Batch adjustment of panning speed to all photos.

.. 3. Batch setting of reduce interlace flicker to all photos.

.. 4. Able to see beginning and end of event for manual adjustment of pans without the fades interfering.

If anyone knows of a slideshow software that can do all 4 things, please let me know.

Thanks (Wish this forum had single space capability)

Personally for doing serious slideshows/audio visuals I'd use a slideshow programme such as ProShow Gold. Or as we're now Magix orientated there's Magix Photostory Deluxe. I've never used it but there's a trial available. MovieStudio is basically a video editor with slideshow capabilities added on. A dedicated slideshow programme is more likely to give you what you want.

I'll try to find out if ProShow products can do what I want, automatically or at least in batch mode.

Thanks.
