Can't update Movie Studio 16.0 Platinum, Build 167

Jeff-Buhrer wrote on 1/6/2020, 10:35 PM

I have Movie Studio 16.0 Platinum, build 167 installed on a Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit PC. I downloaded a new update but the update won't install Now or Later. I keep getting the message "The installer is unable to update Movie Studio 16.0 Platinum while it is running." What is the latest build number for my version? Please provide a link to the latest build (executable) so I can download it manually and run it when the program isn't running.

Latest update of VMS is only W10 compatible. W7 is no longer supported by Vegas and Microsoft. Maybe time to upgrade to W10, which is still possible to do for free. I upgraded a laptop to W10 , three weeks ago.

@Jeff-Buhrer Your problem is caused by VMS not shutting down properly but as 3POINT mentions the latest build(s) aren't fully compatible with Win7. Some features don't work such as importing mts files. There are threads on this.

With Win7 the latest build that should fully work is 142 for Platinum. You will find download links in this thread https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-movie-studio-16-update-2-build-138-142--116343/

Before trying to update, open the Task Manager and kill any MSP process left there. There might be more than one.

Please note the point regarding Win7 mentioned by 3POINT and EricLNZ.

I have this problem but am running the current Win10 Pro 64-bit system with 32GB RAM at 3.4GHz speed and an NVidia graphics card. It simply will not update.

Try e.g. MAGIX Download Center. Check first Task Manager to see there are no VEGAS processes running. See other download options from this link. Moderator NickH is currently keeping section 6 here updated.

Note that Chrome has currently trouble downloading. Try a different browser.
