You can upgrade only to another Movie Studio version.

Interesting. I'm curious if someone with just Movie Studio tries upgrading and can get to that window also. I actually don't own Movie Studio, but I'd buy it just to get the upgrade discount if it works.

Have you tried to ask MAGIX direct?

I'll try them again today, thanks. Last time I tried, the number hangs up on me every time I select 1 for Sony Vegas products.

Hi,

Use the Support message system, don't call, especially on the weekend or outside of working hours in the time zone where Magix support is located.

Magix sometimes offers an upgrade from a lower product to an advanced one. For example, those with Movie Edit Pro 2018 Plus/Premium were being offered Video Pro X at the normal upgrade price for VPX last week (no longer). A message popped up upon loading the program with this offer. So, ask Magix support and watch for offers from within MS.

Hi there,

if you're logged in while buying, our system will automatically search for a valid software to upgrade from in your user account. If it doesn't find anything (because you didn't register or using a different account), you will be asked to enter the serial number of that software.

It is true that you can get the newest VP version with your Movie Studio for the upgrade price. Just visit the product page and click the upgrade button. Best thing is to log in and let the system do the work as described above. We are aware that there are issues with the transparency about which software is valid for which upgrades and we want to improve that in the future. In our over 25 year long history, we have never done official upgrades until recently. So we are still finding our way I guess.

Hope that helps, just ask away if anything is left unclear.
