Cannot import .MTS files after updating to Build 458

Matthew-Hall wrote on 2/4/2022, 10:42 PM

I saw one other person post about this, but they did not appear to receive a response.

I've been using .MTS files from this same camera in Vegas for years now, but after updating Vegas Pro 19.0 to Build 458, I can no longer import them. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'm running the latest version of Windows and Vegas 19.

Try going to Options->Preference->File I/O and check the box that says "Use legacy AVC decoder."

The click Apply, OK, and restart Vegas. Does that change anything?

I already had that box checked. I just tried unchecking it, but neither option is changing anything for me.

Is that a recent change? Up until the most recent build I was using this same camera for years with Vegas and never had an issue importing the footage. I haven't changed any of the audio settings on the camera, the only variable has been the new build of Vegas.

It's been like this since Vegas Pro 17

To import AVCHD files with ac3 audio in Vegas pro 19 with Windows 7 you will have to rewrap the files to the .mp4 container converting only the audio to the .aac format.

I don't know if there is any difference between Panasonic and Sony AVCHD, but my recent edit from AVCHD sources (shot with Sony A6000) shows no trouble.

Wish I knew the easy fix for this issue.

Testing updating to Windows10 shows no problem at all:

@Matthew-Hall Hi, as @RogerS says, would you share a copy of the file,
Put it in a zipped folder & drag it into Google Drive,
Set the Share to Anyone with the link & Copy the link,
Then post it on here using the chain icon at the top of a new comment,
I’m really curious about this now but don't have any .MTS files,
& seeing as some others seem to be ok with them, maybe trying out your particular one might be different,

@set @RogerS @Former user

@Matthew-Hall uses VEGAS Pro 19 with the WINDOWS 7 operating system.
AVCHD files (.MTS; .TS; M2TS) will only import correctly in VEGAS Pro 19 with the WINDOWS 10 operating system. It has been this way since Vegas Pro 17.

There are many discussions on this subject.

No. To be honest, the only times I've had any success with this forum is when someone from Vegas/Magix replies to me. Every other time I've posted, my issues have been either completely misunderstood by people, or I've been given "solutions" that imply that the person responding didn't really read my posts.

Eric, I don't mean to be rude, but this is exactly what I'm talking about. I said in my first post that I am using the latest version of Windows. Now, to be fair, the latest version of Windows is Windows 11, and I'm currently using Windows 10, but regardless, it's absurd to think that I'd be using Windows 7, which came out in 2009 and had support for it discontinued in 2020.

I just recorded file to send to you, and I tested it before uploading. I was able to drag and drop it into Vegas with no issue whatsoever, just as I had been able to do prior to the Build 458 update to Vegas 19. I am currently on Build 550 of Vegas 19.

@dave-stuck, are you using the latest version of Vegas? My issues with MTS files only lasted a few months, I was using them with no issues at all on previous builds of both Vegas 19 and Vegas 18. My best guess is that one of the builds changed something to make the files incompatible, and whatever that thing was must have been patched out since I made my initial post.

In case anyone is curious, here is an MTS file from the same camera that was giving me issues when I first made this thread back in February:

@Matthew-Hall 👍 Why people have started assuming your using Windows 7 i have no idea, you're right, often the comments aren't read properly, even when it's pointed out like I did in the comments above quoting that your using 'the latest version', I looked before making that comment, nowhere on here do you mention Windows 7 & your last post dated 10/28/2021 your very first comment states 'Hi, I just upgraded to Vegas 19 on Windows 10' 🤷‍♂️👍

can you go to your icon at the top, click it - My Profile, & fill in your Signature with your Vegas version, Windows version & system specs, full name of CPU, GPU, & amount of RAM etc. this will then show at the bottom of the comments 👍 (see mine & other peoples at the bottom of comments) thanks.
