Compatability of Vegas Versions

Webster-Struthers wrote on 1/4/2024, 1:21 PM

Will files created on Vegas 6 with XP work in a Windows 11 machine with Vegas 21? I am trying to complete a project started on Vegas 6 with Vegas 21. My old computer is dying, but the files are intact, and I can get them off of there. I would like to upgrade to a new computer and software, but I am hesitant unless I know the new software will read the old files. Any advice?

Just download the trial version of Vegas Pro 21 and try them.

Yes.

@Webster-Struthers, Those old file should open in VEGAS Pro 21 in theory. I suggest you use Windows Explorer to make a copy of the old project files and then, as suggested, use the trial version to see if they open in VP21. If they don't, you have a safety backup of the original project in case something gets damaged (I don't see why it would, but be safe).

As the OP does not yet seem to have that new computer, he needs to trial with his "old dying computer" first. IIRC a trial can be installed and tested again on another (e.g. new) computer.

The oldest vegs I have are made with Vegas 7 together with the original media, no issue so far to open those vegs in VP21.

Just make sure that you give them a new name before saving them as Vegas 21 veg, once a Vegas 7 veg is overwritten as a Vegas 21 veg, it cannot been opened anymore in Vegas 7.

I have.VP-9 veg files from a Win XP PC which open in v21, some of the audio plug-ins do not load due to a path difference or are not installed. The legacy Direct X plugs from Sound Forge open though.

Thank you everybody. I am somewhat concerned about the audio plug-ins not working, because all of the files are audio files. I hesitate to reload 6 on the machine. I believe the motherboard is finally showing its age. I'm going to try to extricate the files and get them into a new machine with Windows 11 and Vegas 21.Hopefully they will all open and I can save my project. Six songs already mixed, two raw on the timeline. This forum is a lifesaver. Again, thanks to everyone.
