SpackaChops wrote on 8/19/2018, 6:09 AM

i am creating a video for my wife's grand fathers 90th birthday, i wanted to have a song playing on the entire thing but wanted the song volume to drop when a video was going to be placed (different members of the family wishing him happy birthday) and then obviously the song volume to be up when there was going to be pictures placed between videos and so forth, pretty new to this whole thing

i am using vegas pro 14

Thanks in advance

Gary

Use Volume Envelope.

You can use the Volume Envelope Editing tool to adjust the audio levels at the appropriate places in the music track. Select the Envelope Edit tool either from the icons below the Timeline or from the Edit menu Edit tool. Then if you right click on your Music audio track make sure that the Volume Envelope is Shown under Show Envelopes and Insert/Remove Envelopes has the Volume one turned on. Then you should see a Volume Envelope line shown on the audio track. There you can click to place keyframes and drag the Volume up and down at the appropriate times.

If you have Vegasaur, there's a wonderful feature in there, sound ducking, that does this for you, all in one fell swoop, all along the timeline. Just learned about this (on this site) recently, and it saves me a bunch of time.

Late to the party 'cause I did this on my slowest machine...

Two words: Volume Envelope. "Insert> Audio Envelope> Volume" (Keyboard shortcut: 'V')

As Len stated, for a huge number of dialog over music volume instances, a ducking app... Unfortunately, these are few and far between, since VP does not support 'normal' side-chaining, (aka, keying), like just about every other DAW on Planet Earth (despite requests since Vegas 1 & 2, which where audio only).
