Be sure to highlight only one event. As j-v says, clips become events when they are on the timeline.

And turn Auto Ripple off if it is on.

I apologize for not fully understanding the video terminology. I am not a video person, just an old retired mechanical engineer trying to create a video of a test I performed. I have used platinum version 15 without having the present issue. I upgraded to platinum 16 and the difficulties started. For example I started a new project and added a video (that I recorded on my Logitech camera) to my project media . I then inserted the video into a video time line and since I do not want to keep the audio that came with the video, I ungrouped the audio and then tried to delete it. The delete process removed the audio time line and the video time line.

The suggestion to remove the ripple affect, fixed this issue. Though my 15 years as a software product manager in the CAD and TCP/IP industry, makes me want to understand why the ripple affect would delete the ungrouped items on different time lines (Video line and Audio line). Is there another form of "glue" that is not part of the group, that associates the events on different time lines that is not self evident to the user?

I recall when the group concept was introduced by the developers in the CAD company where I worked. As a U/I designer I explained that the concept is not part of the engineering terminology, but since this was before solid modeling it was a way to connect geometric entities together to make the task easier for the user. I suggested that we should consider one of two approaches for making the group evident to the user. When they select an entity, use the normal highlight color for the entity and a secondary highlight color when a group exists to show what entities are involved. The second approach is to make the delete (and other actions) to state the entity you selected is part of a group, do you want to delete just the entity or the group of entities. Depending on the answer, entity only, the software would ungroup the entity and then delete it; group, the software would delete the group. The alternative is to leave the work of ungrouping to the user.

When it is all to difficult for you after reading the manual, simply push the "mute" button of a unwanted audiotrack will also do your job.

It's also possible to import your video without the audio onto the timeline, when you only need the video. Drag your event into the timeline while holding the right mouse button instead of the left mouse button and choose video only.

Ripple can be an effective tool, but it can screw you up too. Its primary purpose is to allow you to delete a section and slide everything else on all tracks or only affected tracks forward or add and slide it backward. This is handy if you have put in a placeholder shot and the new shot is a different length. There are different settings for what gets rippled. The help file and playing with the option will better your understanding of its usefulness.
