Device not available

Colin-McLennan wrote on 6/10/2019, 1:00 AM

Hi to all. I am trying to archive all my old miniDV tapes. I am running Win !0 and have just purchased Movie Studio 15 Platinum.. I have installed an imported PGI-e card, a BGEKTOTH 20180608_H15. My old Panasonic NV-GS25 shows up in the 'Bluetooth and other devices' page but when I try to capture video I get the message "Device not available" In the Capture Preferences/Device I have selected IEEE 1394 but still no joy. I have checked with the manufacturers site and they say no drivers are needed. My next option is to pay up for a better supported PCI-e card but would like to check here first.

I don't use 10 and have no issues getting DV with my 7 ( I use XP's movie maker for that), few say to use Legacy IEEE1394 OHCI drivers on 10. Try follow this :

and also this

One last thing, I never use mains power , only batteries . using mains can burn camera's DV port.

Do a Search ("Find...") Scenalyzer on this forum as well.

Make sure that Windows is seeing your device. If Windows does not recoqnize it, Vegas will not.

Hi again, thanks for all the posts on this. Following a few of the leads it appears I must install the old Legacy 1394 drivers. I am still working on this and will post again when I get it working. Thanks again. Colin

I have tried 3 different firewire cards and device still unavailable. Looks like I may have to go back to an old XP PC

Did you try installing and capturing with scenalyzer as suggested by @vkmast. It has always worked for me where other capture software has been flakey and not recognised the device. Its not maintained anymore but the author has made it available free with the activation codes here http://www.scenalyzer.com/

Cheers, Robbie

Hi Robbie. Thanks for your reply. I tried scenealyzer with the first card but no luck. I have just reinstalled it and get the error message:***Error:cc cant instantiate: 272" The camera is visible in device manager but in the camcorder properties/ Events/Information I get the message "Device AVC\Panasonic&NV-GS25&CAMCORDER&DV\24C454B180458000 requires further installation"

cheers

Colin

Further to the above, I fired up an old laptop that has a firewire port and Win Movie maker picked up the camera and downloaded video straight away, however the Vegas Video ver 9.0 installed wouldn't pick it up. Tells me the camera is OK but a problem with Vegas / Moviemaker. Thats pretty much it for me. I have ordered a low profile PCI firewire card to fit my XP box and will let Win Moviemaker do the rest.

cheers to all

Colin

Colin, I captured my DV/VHS's as ~3mb/s wmv, getting ~1.3gb for an hour.
