Disappointed with Vegas Pro 14 Suite version

Jumping Rascal wrote on 10/6/2016, 1:09 PM

As a registered owner of Vegas Pro 13 Suite, I'm not impressed with Magix's first go around with Vegas Pro and I won't be upgrading either to Pro 14 or the Suite version. On the Vegas side, I find the new features not useful to me/not meriting the cost. I am disappointed with the subtractions, bugs, lack of backward compatibility and missing features. Just about every day forum members report new bugs/problems/lack of functionality. The pricing debacle for existing users, well documented in this forum, is a real turn off.

Why did Magix even bother with a Suite Version? Missing compared to V13 Suite, are Hitfilm, the most current version of Titler Pro, many very handy New Blue plug ins, and several sound software files. Also missing in V14 Suite and present in V13 Suite, if I am reading the Magix info correctly, is Sound Forge or any SF update when ready. Yes, you do get a few modules from BCC 10 but Vegas14 Suite is not a particularly good value. How many of the extra features from V13 Suite will work with Vegas 14? According to some of the postings here, there are issues in particular when opening V13 projects. So why upgrade when there will be more headaches than it is worth? Magix had a golden opportunity to include some of their other software in the Suite version such as their audio, Xara, photo, and music software but did not.

I will pass on upgrading in favor of waiting to purchase the full version of BCC 10 on Black Friday when Boris Fx traditionally has some good deals. The $349 that Magix is asking from me to update to V14 Suite should cover a large part of the BBC10 purchase on Black Friday.

I'll be patient and hope for a turn around with V15 because I've spent so much time and effort with Vegas over the years since V7. In the meantime, Vegas 13 meets my needs and it is working very well.

This is an intersting read for someone who has 13 Suite, and was looking at getting 14 suite, however i have read MANY people getting crashes.

Are you saying its feels like new software so nothing works?  I have LOADS of datafiles and projects i need to open with Vegas, am i better not upgrading?

It depends what 3rd-party effects you have in those old projects, and which 3rd-party extensions and plugins you rely on. Some work. Some don't. And also of course it depends if there is anything in VP14 that you need that wasn't in previous versions. Personally I would want to see this bug and this bug fixed before upgrading.

My experience with bundled software coming with Vegas is not the best. The versions are limited, and in some cases they will not work with the next version. That is why I tend to purchase the full BCC10 but also the full Hitfilm or even Looks 3 as extra bundles, and all of that works in VP14 by now.

I am sure that identified bugs will be fixed by Gary and his team in VP 14 in the near future.

I have edited some projekts in VP 14 successfull now, either with 10bit ProRes,  10bit Cineform or 10bit XAVC footage. That works as expected here.

Excellent and very reassuring to know. Looking forward to it.

I believe a killer feature of VP14 would have been modern GPU support at encoding :)

Hmm, for me an improvement in the preview capabilites would be more important. Fast rendering is great to have, but I do not sit beside the PC and wait for it - at least that is true for me.

But the improvement in the preview playback for UHD/4K files is something that is important or editing.

Preview playback definitely needs improving as well as faster rendering which will come when GPU compatibility is fixed. I own BCC which is great so the modules in the Suite aren't worthwhile for me. I would also like to see the full version of Hitfilm bundled in the Suite which would make it more like a Premier/After Effects combo. There is much more compositing of 3D models nowdays so the Suite could fulfill that need. I still don't understand why we need to buy a 3rd party titler. We should already have a better one in Vegas. Until GPU is fixed I'm not bothering to upgrade.

I can see why they forgot to color the icons in 14 maybe to reduce the "candy effect" . I can't stand the dark background because its hard to see small print but I haven't tried to use any options yet. I want to get all my veg files fixed in Vegas 12 before I transfer them to 14.

Options > Preferences > Display > Uncheck "Use Vegas color scheme" > Restart

Any use?

As a Vegas user since version 3 I have always upgraded to every new version. This time I went for the VP14 Suite, and I am very happy. For me the BCC plug-ins are definitely worth the additional cost. VP14 itself is worth the upgrade cost due to 4K monitor support, improved Vegasaur, 4K upscaling, 40x velocity etc. I keep VP13 for PluralEyes and AC3 Pro though.

Yes, there are still bugs, less intuitive icons, better GPU preview support would be great, NewBlue Titler issues are endless and so on but I am optimistic. I am happy to support Magix in continuing developing Vegas, as I have invested so much time (and money) in this software.

Does version 14 fully support Dolby? (with the ability of moving sound around the channels as we have a Dolby trade agreement so this is a very important feature we cant lose).

If your keeping v13 then its not a complete upgrade...

Time is the big issue for me. It is why I went CC Photoshop and why I went for the 13/14 deal (had been a studio user upto that point). I tried both BCC and Adobe for a while and just felt it would take several years to get back up to speed. I am willing to see this out for a few years.

But please understand that it is up to the development team what they fix and when they fix it. I can also be wrong here.

I've been a giant supporter of Vegas many years. I just upgraded to 14 Suite for the deal, but will not install. I wanted to upgrade so I could keep my upgrade pricing in effect and if they release a more stable version, then I'm in.  I am concerned about plugins that don't work, i.e Plural Eyes.  Also, I don't understand all this GPU not supported business. Are they or are they not going to support GPU rendering? I would like it (even though I don't sit by my machine) and I'm sure others would too. It's hard to tell and they are not doing themselves any favors by having posts like this out there for people to read pre-sales! The whole thing is shrouded in mystery.   https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyVegas/comments/54cp6a/does_vegas_pro_14_support_gpu_acceleration/  Good luck Magix, and as ^ said, you now have our money...let's see what you can do! We have faith it will be awesome and GPU-licious.
