Download Update Problem

Lroa wrote on 12/26/2020, 2:20 PM

Everytime I open the Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum, and an update is required. I select to Perform Update Now. It looks as if it is downloading something, but once it is downloaded it says Install Now or Install Later. I have selected both options numerous times and nothing happens. I have been trying to get this important update downloaded and installed over 12 times now - and no success. Please help.

Have you tried to download from MAGIX Download Center? First check Task Manager to see that there are no VEGAS processes running. If Chrome does not download, use another browser.

(See also e.g. this thread.)

I have the software already downloaded on my system. However, there are system updates that need to be downloaded. That is what I am having an issue with. For some reason it will not Install the Software Update once it has appeared to be downloaded.

So you cannot run Update.exe in your C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Movie Studio Platinum\17.0 ? Or is the file in your Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager ?

Check also this FAQ. (Many points apply to VMSP as well.)

I do not see any Update.exe file in the extension: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Movie Studio Platinum\17.0

Nor do I see Update.exe in the Documents extension. However, there is an Update Notifier. When I clicked on it - it opened up a box to remove it from the computer.

Whenever I open up the software of Movie Maker 17.0 Platinum it tells me I need to download the Software Update. At this time, it will not allow me to download the update and install the software update.

Do you have an exe.file of VEGAS_Movie_Studio_17.0.0.204_Platinum in your Installationsmanager? If not, you don't seem to have the software update "already downloaded" on your system. Close the program and all the VEGAS processes and try Magix Download Center. And check the FAQ linked.

Yes, I do have that .exe file in my Installationmanager

Lroa wrote on 12/26/2020, 3:34 PM

Should I execute that file?

vkmast wrote on 12/26/2020, 3:35 PM

Have you tried to run it?

Lroa wrote on 12/26/2020, 3:43 PM

When I clicked on it - it said "The version of Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum on your system is newer than the version being installed. Please uninstall the existing version before installing."

See what is the current build number of your installed software. Help dropdown menu > About > General tab. If it is # 204, you already have the latest update installed. Ignore the update prompt.

Lroa wrote on 12/26/2020, 3:55 PM

It says Build 179

vkmast wrote on 12/26/2020, 3:59 PM

Oh well. What is the number of the exe.file you are trying to install?

Lroa wrote on 12/26/2020, 4:03 PM

VEGAS_Movie_Studio_17.0.0.143_Platinum_INT_17_0_0_143

Lroa wrote on 12/26/2020, 4:06 PM

vegasmoviestudio17suite_dlm_k17w6.exe

Figures. In fact "the version of Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum on your system is newer than the version being installed" as you may gather from its higher number.

Use MAGIX Download Center (linked above) to download the latest update and check Installationsmanager after that. On the other hand, you might want to stay with your current build for the time being as there's a bug in 204 with some files and wait for the next update.
