Downloading an update

Mimi-Steel wrote on 5/18/2021, 4:03 AM

Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum Plus: I received a notice that an update was available (496MGB). I requested a download of the update and the whole process took over 6 hours !!!!! When the download was complete, I was given the option to "update now" or "update later" by clicking one of the buttons. I didn't select either and I closed the program so that I could apply the update later, assuming that the upgrade file and stored somewhere within the program or in the download area of file explorer. The update disappeared and when I logged on again, it started the download all over again, another 6 hours !!!!.

Do you have some kind of Zip file that would make this faster? When the download has been sent to your computer once, is there a way to retrieve it from your computer or within the program without having to start all over again? I looked in my download area of file explorer and it wasn't there.

It is taking me longer to download this upgrade than it took to download the program originally

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 5559 64 bit, 16GB Ram, Intel i7 processor. Running Windows 19 Home. OS build 19042.985

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-movie-studio-17-update-3-builds-176-221--129201/

or your MAGIX account > My products

or MAGIX Download Center

Thanks for your prompt response. I notice there are 2 builds. Does the second on 221, include the first one or do I download both? Is this essentially a "new install" from a zip file that will be faster than the update I am trying to do for the second time :(

I selected the 221 for Platinum It is downloading now. It is changing from saying I have 6 hours left to download to 3 hours, then up to 4 hours. How is this any better, except for the fact that it will now be in my download area so it won't disappear if I screw up on the install portion.

@Mimi-Steel Look in your User Documents for a folder "MAGIX Downloads" and in that an "Installationsmanager" folder. Your downloaded file is probably in there.

I don't see anything that says "user documents". None of the files that are in the program folder show any update date of today. I also looked at everything on the tool bar and drop downs in the program and didn't see anything.

@Mimi-Steel as @EricLNZ said in his response to your double post on your issue: "Presumably internet blockage[s] somewhere around the globe."

For general info on downloads, please read here sections 3, 4, 5, 6 and 2 (second paragraph should currently end "in section 6 below").

C:\Users\your username\Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager is what was referred to above.

If you download from inside the program, C:\Users\my username\AppData\Local\Movie Studio Platinum\17.0 includes VMSPEUpdate.exe if you choose to update after the application is closed. I just tested it. Btw, my download took 2 minutes, so most likely Internet blockages or slow connections are the culprit(s) there.

I've been trying to load this update for a couple of months now and it just isn't happening! Every time I open 17 platinum I'm prompted to download the update. I have tried both the "update now", and "update later" options on at least twenty occasions each and it has never happened. Very frustrating! I've read all of the above thread and tried to follow that through but it hasn't been helpful. I checked the Magix download folder.....the update is not in there. I followed the Direct download link....that download link doesn't go anywhere. That link opens another page....then stops. No forwarding takes place! My download speed is fine, the update takes only a minute or so. It doesn't appear to be storing anywhere and it's certainly not updating. I'm running Windows 10 pro on a Dell with i7 processor. 16gb RAM. My 17 Platinum has had no issues so I'm not even sure I need the update but either way I'd like to stop having to deal with this update issue.

Have you tried your MAGIX Account > My products for the "installation program"? Works for me. So does MAGIX Download Center though. If a browser (Chrome) does not download, try another browser.

As I haven't VMSP 17 build 221 installed on my other device yet, I also tested my advice in the comment above yours and it's still valid. I found VMSPEUpdate.exe in C:\Users\my username\AppData\Local\Movie Studio Platinum\17.0

Some users have reported that they've needed to go back to a previous build, so you may consider not to update if you do not have problems with your current installed build.
