Drag and drop media to the Preview Window

haritol wrote on 8/17/2017, 5:17 AM

Is it possible to have a drag and drop option that can be implemented to the new version of Vegas Pro like I show in this video please?

It is time consuming to work with the Pan/Crop window and try to MANUALLY resize an Image or video to the desire size. We have to get the most of the Preview view, Instead of working outside the "Canvas".

Can please elaborate what you actually looking for? Your video doesn't quite explain it.

Sync Cursor in the P/C window?

haritol wrote on 8/17/2017, 6:04 AM

Try to drag and drop anything on your preview window. Vegas doesn't let you do it. instead you have to drag it to the timeline and it's not displaying the size you want. Instead you have to go to the pan/Crop window in order to make it smaller why?

Try this

The first video clip you put on the timeline will set the videoproject (and also the preview) to the settings of your videoclip. To preview an event in it's original aspect ratio, without adding it to the timeline, just enable auto preview in de explorer or project media window.

Doesn't work, if you see the image that I'm trying to add is 350x150 pixels.

I know that. but what if I my project is in 1080p and I want to add media such logos and images in different sizes. why do I need to waste my time by resizing them in the Pan/Crop window?

So how does dragging it to the preview window make it any different? You still need to use the Pan/Crop tool or not?

No, I don't need to use the the Pan/Crop tool. Check out this simple example with After effects.

For that goal its better to use Trackmotion

Ok, I made another video to be understood better.

Right now, that is the way it works. You can always make a feature request.

jetdv wrote on 8/17/2017, 8:51 AM

You could try the "Logo Resize/Position" tool in Excalibur.

3POINT wrote on 8/17/2017, 9:57 AM

You could make a pan/crop template with the project resolution and project aspect ratio. When adding a logo etc to the timeline, just call that pan/crop template and the logo will be shown according it's real size.

I see. Yes, that would be a nice feature.

that will only work with one image. But what if I have to create a slideshow with different image sizes?

Images behave different from video. When you put an image on the timeline it fills default the height of the screen, which is for my opinion a good way to start with. When you want that the picture fills the width of screen on default, use the option Cornico describes. When you want that each pictures is shown at it's actual size, use the pan/crop template I describe. When you want to create a slideshow with different image sizes that way, just copy/paste event attributes from the first image event to the other image events, just a few more mouseclicks (3 or 4 I think).

For my opinion it would be usefull if pan/crop could be done directly in the previewscreen instead of the pan/crop window.

I actually fully get why someone would want that feature, especially when images are of different size and should remain that way. I would already accept if Vegas doesn't change the size at all, that would already be helpful. But even more helpful would be to drag and change size in the preview window, much like it can be done with positioning text. I am all for it!

Did you try the Logo Resize/Position tool in Excalibur? That will resize every image you want back to their original size all at once. You'll still have to position each one, though.

Yes, I did try it. Thanks, it's a temporarily solution, here I have an example of how I did it. And also with a few downsides compared to After Effects, Don't get me wrong I love Vegas, it's very intuitive and easy to use, but that Pan and Crop, Man is not making things easier. Because it's not possible to grab an object from the preview by selecting it. and and by the way I have to pay for this Excalibur thing as well. :(

jetdv wrote on 8/18/2017, 12:14 PM

Yes, AE is different than Vegas. But Excalibur will get them all the original size for you.

To move the images, you really should use Track Motion instead of Pan/Crop.

Pan/Crop is designed to crop an image and pan across that image. Track Motion is designed to move things around on the screen.
