Editing effects in Movie Studio 13

I just purchased this software because I wanted some more sophisticated effects than are offered with Windows Live Movie Maker. Now I find I cannot edit any effects I apply to a video track or video event. I can get to the video plugin chooser and add an effect to a track, such as brightness and contrast, but no window pops up to edit the effect, making it useless! When I click the effect icon on an audio track a window pops up and I can edit the parameters of the compressor or eq or other effect, but on my video tracks the effect icon doesn't work. I'm running windows 8.1. If I can't edit my video effects I might as well go back to Win movie maker. At least I can edit the brightness or speed of a video clip. Here I can't do ANY such editing. What's going on!!! I read all the help and tutorials. Anyone notice this with Win 8.1?

BTW I purchased it on 12/31/14 so it's the latest update. Just to be certain,I uninstalled the program last night, and downloaded it again and re-installed it. Same issue. No problem with adding audio effects but the video effects editing window never shows up. Can anyone help with this, or can I just get my money back as the program doesn't work as described in the help guide.

Is it possible that the window is popping up behind the main editing window? What happens if you switch from Simple edit to Advanced edit modes?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I don't have MS platinum, so there's no advanced mode as far as I know. If I minimize the main window there's no effects editing window hiding behind. I have MS 13.0 (64bit). I tried the 32 bit version as well....same issue. As I wrote, the audio effects icon works fine. A window pops up so I can edit the effect/s. I sent an email to 'technical support' the other day, but haven't heard back yet. It was the weekend, so they were probably off. Hope to hear something today. Maybe I'll try live chat....if that works.

Try quitting Vegas, then holding down the Ctrl & Shift keys together while you start it again. This will reset everything back to the original installation defaults and may get your effects dialog windows back on screen.

Seems some users got past this kind of a problem resetting software to default settings. Try it if it works for you.

edit: kelly/Chienworks did it again first:)

Thanks but the effects icon still refuses to bring up any effects. I can only get to the plugin chooser by right clicking the effects icon on the video event. Then I choose a effects plugin but still the effects editing window doesn't pop up. It's got to be an issue with win 8.1. Anyone else using 8.1 with MS 13...non platinum?
