Effects Apply to All Clips from Same Source Media

Once again have a very hard time with something that seems like it should be extremely straightforward.

Basically I have several clips cut from the same media source. I have cut the source media into several clips, re-using some clips more than once. The problem is that if I apply an effect to a clip it applies that effect to all clips derived from the same media.

If it helps, what I'm attempting to do is add some color correction to make an earlier scene look like a flashback, but when I add flashback effects to the proper scene, everything from that scene's source now has a flashback effect.

I'm starting to think I'm dumb or this program might be.

You probably apply the fx as Media FX. Try applying as Event FX.

Yes, I guess that is the case as well. Use the Track FX symbol in the event itself rather than the one in the Track Control Pane on the left.

Video event effects are applied to individual events.

Video track effects are applied to every event on the track.

Video media effects are applied to every occurrence of the media file in your project. The source media file is not affected.

Video output effects are applied to every video event in your project.
