Figuring out update process

After I install an update on Platinum Movie Studio 16, I'm advised I have two versions and have to delete one. They're listed in a popup window as 1 and 2 but they're identical and there's no indication which is the updated version. Which gets deleted to keep the update?

Also, I'm puzzled why I have to re-register the product after each update and go through this whole deleting process. Every other app I have that updates just dumps the old version. What's the point of all these extra steps?

Thanks!

If you are updating your VMS 16 Platinum build (e.g.) 142 to build (e.g.) 175, the new build "will overwrite your installation. Your computer will need to be online for activation after the update".
If you have two installations activated, you need to deactivate one. This releases the licence for further use on another device. You can then uninstall (do not "delete") the "app" from the device you don't use, if you wish.

Please read the FAQ section 9 (which applies to VMS versions as well):

(Note that the 2 activations may not apply to the Steam editions.)

"You can use VEGAS Pro (14.0 and later) simultaneously on 2 devices. There are 2 ways to deactivate a device so you can activate a different one:

Visit your MAGIX account > My Products > Show More Details > Deactivate. This option can be used only once a month.

From the VEGAS Pro Help menu choose Deactivate the Software on this PC. This option can be used as often as you wish. An internet connection is required."

(This is how the update process works for me.)
