Thank you, but not helpful at all. My file has 95MB. If I edit it and 'Make a Movie', the lowest resolution is MAGIC AVC MP4, which has 190MB output size. There are no other possibilities for lower quality or any other settings reducing the size.

Which version and buildnr. of Movie Studio are you working with?
What and how are you trying to export that "3 min clip"?

We use mostly the Option "Make Movie" on the upper toolbar and than make one of the choices to export the Vegas Project:

Hi, I bought the program today, basic version. I use Make a Movie too. If I choose YouTube option, it says 24MB estimated file size. But it's 190MB too and the upload takes more than and hour. I have a high speed internet and quite ok PC. so no problem there. The files are just freaking huge.

The point in point 6 in the link was this: "The higher the bitrate, the better the quality, and the larger the file. A lower bitrate will produce smaller file sizes." The Make Movie options do not allow you to customize the bitrate. In the basic version you cannot customize the render templates to adjust the bitrate either.

(And the basic version has "Render as" in Make Movie > Save to hard drive, Advanced options, but the templates are not customizable there.)

j-v wrote on 4/11/2019, 3:14 AM

Sorry brothers, but in the basic version you are able to change bitrate and size.
@berg.12

The program works well with me, but the given info about the estimated file size is not totally well estimated at different options.
The size and bitrate of the UT file is changeable but the given info changes not with it.
Changing quality and filesize depends on this setting

That maybe you changed to "higher" and than gives you a 7-8 times much greater filesize.

Look for a comparison of MediaInfo for my both made files

Filesize difference is the same between my trial and your finding.
So you have to choose wich size and bitrate you want for that UT file.

PS. The long upload time looks strange to me. 190 MB I can upload with laptop on Wifi in about 5 seconds.

@j-v good catch about Normal vs. Higher. But can you actually choose/customize the size and (exact) bitrate that you want?

j-v wrote on 4/11/2019, 3:48 AM

Not needed because, also in my try, VMS 16 chooses the right ouput files as compared to sourcefile and projectsettings. If you want more, as you can see at my screenprint, it is greyed out because my sourcefile was not HDR.
Even in the Platinum version the program chooses a self made renderpreset if that suites the settings of project and sourcefile.
(And yess, on our very good Dutch Vegas forum, we figured this out by much trial projects of all kind. Still too bad Magix was not willing in the past to integrate that forum into the Magix one after a half year of asking over and over again. 😬)

@j-v so your take is that Movie Studio basic and Platinum versions offer the same possibilities to customize the bitrate?

j-v wrote on 4/11/2019, 5:00 AM

No and that I'm not saying.
I have said that in this case with Make Movie it is the same for this choice , but is the case also for Facebook and Vimeo options, harddrive has more options for advanced settings that are in Platinum and in Basic.
In the File menu is that advanced option also in Platinum but not in Basic.

See basic version >>>Make movie >>>>Harddrive

Seems we agree on this. I suggest that the OP gets the Platinum version.

berg.12 wrote on 4/11/2019, 5:06 AM

Hi,

thank you all for the support. In the basic version there are no possibilities to change rendering options, only the procedure that 'j-v' suggested. This really works, but you can't do anything else in the program while uploading (40MB in 30min). If you have several videos in a row it takes hours to complete the process than. You can abort uploading and you have a small file done, but it crashes the program.

I paid 35€ for the program, this is no trial version or so and it still doesn't allow me to do the absolute basic thing I bought it for. Unless I buy more expensive version. I'm deleting this b#&]@hit immedietely, taking my money back and work with VideoPad again.

j-v wrote on 4/11/2019, 5:21 AM

You can still use Movie Studio Basic version with all possible options, but not when you want the program to upload it somewhere.
I did never use that option and you can better try what I'm always doing.
Save it to your harddrive as you want in Advanced options with specs Youtube in this case need.
Best is mp4 with your choice and than manually upload it to your account somewhere.
Most I make short projects, render them mp4 and when needed I stich them together without rerendering with MP4 tools to 1 file. Works very fast and simple.
