Skip and go to 295.
In principle, you should not have a problem. Some seem to like 256, even 220, but I don't have too many problems with 295.
And if you use DVD A Studio build 150, update that. If you use 128, you might want to keep that, I did.

A more general answer is that all of the builds are complete and independent installations. You can install any of them on their own, or over top of another. None of them are dependent on earlier ones.

when I install the updates, do I have to do the work around for vista 64 bit? on everyone of them? ( I will have to update DVD A 5.0 as well...)Can I do the updates even though I have a project in progress?

install only the one build you choose to update to.
If by the workaround you mean the '64bit fix', see this:

You might want to finish editing the project in progress rather than update in mid-project.
