FX appears but does not work

Been chasing this for 3 months. v17 Windows 11

The FX either on the event or the time line appears but does not work - i.e. the sliders, etc. work but nothing happens to the video. I have tried re-installing and toggling the split-screen but no luck. The problem just started suddenly and was working OK before.

"If it worked before", often at least worth trying to reset the software to default settings. Follow the instructions closely.

Edit: Oops! My apologies. I re-read your comment and see that you mentioned the split-screen button.

original post:

Make sure you don't accidentally have the "Fx Bypassed" button engaged. My screenshot is from a very old version of Vegas, but I expect the current version is similar.

Thanks for the suggestions. First I tried the reset as per here::'How to Reset Sony Vegas Pro or Vegas Movie Studio to Default Settings (moviestudiozen.com)' with no result. I had re-installed so thought this wasn't the problem.

I had also tried the 'untoggle FX Bypass solution'. The problem here is that there is no way to 'untoggle' this feature. It just stays there obstinately. The only way is to select 'clipboard ' and then the preview goes black.

Something I remember from another thread was problems with NVidia so I went into the preferences and the computer is using this card. I switched to the generic Intel card and the FX does work but only if I select left half or right half. 'Select all' still returns a black preview. The Bypass is still not able to be de-selected so I my NVidia solution was probably a blind alley.

If selecting one of the dropdowns affects your video, that means that button is active. Click and make it INACTIVE.

Yes I have the Bypass button inactive but noticed something else. Even with the Bypass button inactive the sliders have no effect on the Preview. However if I then close the FX dialogue box the effect then *does* appear on the Preview. But obviously this is not how it is supposed to work.

I don't know what bypass button you are talking about. I am referrinig to a SPLIT SCREEN view button. This should be inactive. From what you described earlier, this is ACTIVE.

Yes, I meant the Split screen button is inactive.
