(Given up, case closed) Vegas 17 Screen Cap is just a blank slate.

DustBin wrote on 8/11/2019, 7:56 AM

I know that Vegas 17 has just been released, and it may just be a bug to be combed out in a future build update. But until then, does anyone know what may potentially cause, and how to fix this issue?

A quick description; the built-in screen recorder in Vegas 17 only shows a blank dark-gray slate, rather than any sign of a program of any kind (see picture below).
I have tried to leave it, hoping it's just incredibly slow to load, but 15 minutes later, and it's still as blank a my brain... I did also just try to reinstall the entire suite, but with no luck.

Now, it's not that I'll die if I don't get it up and running, as I have fraps and OBS (Open Broadcast Studio), which both are great alternatives for screen capture, but I really do like to fix things when they don't work. (I'm just not smart enough to do it by myself.)

It's probably not worth mentioning that the normal DV video capture works just fine and dandy.

Computer: MSI GS65 Laptop, with Intel i7 8th Gen. Nvidia GTX 1060. 16GB ram. Win 10 Home. (less than 2 month old)

Any helpful tips and recommendations are welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

If you do a Forum Search "Find...", you'll get these at the moment.

Thank you for your reply,

I am aware, I have been searching around for the last couple of hours, but none of the posts I found seems to be regarding my exact issue.

Same issue has been discussed a dozen times for the last few days. One of the solutions – see here.

Please read e.g. from this comment on. Watch j-v's video through. The thread comes up in Search, Marco.'s link as well.

Has this " screen capture " a professional editing function or what is this actually meant for ?

If you make educational video production you may use it a lot. I'm glad we got this feature now though it surely needs a big step of further developement. At the moment it's unfinished and too basic.

Well, thank you all.

I did try the right click method, as mentioned, but all it does is open yet a new blank slate.

I'm starting to loose hope a little, maybe the solution lies entirely in Magix' hands.
Guess we just have to hope they'll have a look at it, and roll out an update soon.

In the meantime I guess OBS is the best option.

Does it work if you start the Screen Capture tool by double-clicking the file "VEGAS Capture.exe" from "C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 17.0\VEGASCapture\"? I mean without having started Vegas Pro at all.

vkmast wrote on 8/11/2019, 10:52 AM

@Marco. besides right-clicking this works for me as well. (Saving in C:\Users\username\Captures\)

I've tried it on both my laptop and desktop. Moved the capture folder to a driver that only has about 10% used. still black screen, and a zero bit video file. Screen capture is broken for many user, sent tech support a full detail. I get nothing but a black screen on the video side. Desktop is i7700/4200 ghz 32 gig fast ram, AMD RX480 8 gig, boot 500 gig SS and 13 TB of fast spinners. Laptop i5 8 gig HP. Starting from the vegas folder results in the same issues. Just like the import LUT, this is definitely an issue.

DustBin wrote on 8/13/2019, 3:24 PM

So, starting the capture program directly from the install folder gives no different result. Even after a fresh boot. I did also try to run it as administrator, which should in theory remove any restrictions, but with equal results. There might be something about my computer that the fragile coding for the screen capture simply do not like. (what it might be, is impossible to know)
