GPU Support Information from Sony

I'm not sure if this link has been posted before. It is directly from Sony support:

Vegas Pro 11 and OpenCL GPU-accelerated video processing

I found this because I wrote Sony asking if there is any way to extend my Vegas 11 trial (my initial testing found no rendering or playback improvements on my computer, but then build 425 was released, so I upgraded my second boot drive to Win7-64, & updated my nVidia drivers, only to find the trial had expired). This link appeared at the end of my submission.

Anyway, the point of this post is to give everyone who has GPU issues a list of answers directly from Sony. I found it useful.

John, thanks for this link. Never seen it before.

I liked this one a lot:
"Vegas Pro 11 build 424 (32-bit) and build 425 (64-bit) and later supports NVIDIA CUDA-capable GPUs with Compute Capability 1.0 or higher if they are running the new driver."
Been looking for that answer ever since they said it was fixed in 425. Great.

Hi Paul,
I like the comment too, but right below it it states:

"NVIDIA GPUs with Compute Capability prior to 2.0 are currently not enabled for GPU-accelerated video processing. We are working with nVIDIA on this issue."

So what does it mean that it now supports NVIDIA CUDA-capable GPUs with Compute Capability 1.0 or higher but GPU-accelerated video processing is not enabled unless it is 2.0? Can someone explain to me what "it now supports" means?

Thanks,

Sergio

I understand it was fixed in build 425. And as long as you use the latest drivers, cards with compute value of 1 or more will now work.
This was good to read because they had never stated it was actually value 1. They just said "less than 2". So would 1.0 work? Now we know it should.

sergiob,
If you refer to subpage NVIDIA GPUs and Compute Capability, it states at the beginning:

Update: The issue below has been fixed in NVIDIA driver version 285.62 which is available here. Vegas Pro 11 build 424 (32-bit) and build 425 (64-bit) and later supports NVIDIA CUDA-capable GPUs with Compute Capability 1.0 or higher if they are running the new driver.

BTW, I'm running driver v.285.38 with a Comp. Cap. 1.2 GPU (VP11 b425) and GPU-accelerated video processing is definitely off only. Maybe it's different with v.285.62, but there seems to be some trouble with that, according to some of the threads here.

Hi Paul,
So if one had a card with a compute value lower that 2, then Vegas Pro 11 would not work at all unless one hwas using build 425?

Its true, you need v285.62 as a minumum in order to see GPU enabled in Vegas with cards less than compute 2.
I tried my older card, Nvidia 9600 GSO with compute 1.1, it previously did not show up in the Vegas GPU setting, after updating to driver version 285.62, it does now.
Howvever - it does'nt perform very well, but thats another matter. Lack of cores i think.

@ sergiob, yes you need 425 and the latest video card driver, as i just posted above.
