Help installing new 17 update

BobMoyer wrote on 9/23/2019, 10:51 AM

I know my Window7 is not supported any longer in version 17 but I am not alone in using it.  There seems to be no way to update my version 17 to the new version as it leaves a process running and the update will not allow you to run it and there seems to be no way to end it before the upgrade ends with an error. Any solutions or suggestions (besides upgrading to Win10 which is not a rational option)?

You can try to find the downloaded file or download it from your Magix account and try to install it in compatible mode for older Windows versions by select the install file and make your choice in the properties of that install file.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I looked for the downloaded file but had no idea what the name of it was - any ideas of what or where to look?  Also, I thought of downloading from my Magix account but wasn't positive that it was the 'newest' update as it doesn't show the build number.  Thanks again.

vegaspro17_dlm.exe is the "download manager", which are small (typically approx. 4MB, VP 17 is 6MB). When run, they will fetch a much larger (e.g. 400-450MB, VP 17 is 685MB), main installer for the current release, along with other bundled plugins and apps.  Magix Download Center gave me the DL manager for the build 321 main installer.

When I download from my account I see clearly the buildnumber

But if you download an update it should normally be placed in your Documents/Magix Downloads/installationmanager

@vkmast,@j-v,

Thank you both for the quick response. My Account does not show the build number and I could not find a 'Magix Downloads' folder. I will try the smaller download manager file. Hopefully it will work.

I'm just throwing in a good luck wish for all VP17 users, that this new software build will be better for us all. I have a brand new computer build and am trying to adjust it for the best 4K editing. Hope that this new software build helps me and helps us ALL!!! Kudos to the team!

I used the suggestion from @vkmast. It was successful. Thank you all again.

@BobMoyer thanks for coming back and confirming what worked for you. Always appreciated.

Yes, well, really, a good couple of hours getting this figured out. My time is valuable.....I'm pissed.... I'm getting very tired of the sloppiness with which Vegas has been operating. Samplitude, another highend, large complex program offering by Magix, leaves no "residue" file in the task managers, (one of the "problems" in making this update smooth)....and doesn't arbitrarily decide to use "alternate" download folder locations, and the files themeselves never just "poof" disappear, making one go crazy trying to search out where. OH, the "update" without making you basically start from scratch, IOW< the update is a 50 MB file, not a complete reinstall of the program.

Sorry it took so long of your valuable time. I guess I was lucky to update using the method I mentioned in less than 15 minutes. This is all in the FAQ, point 2.

Yes, well, that is making a lot of assumptions, smug guy. I expect things to just work, if I've paid my money, and for many years. Why is the program updater not in the Magix update folder, as per usual??? It doesn't show up in Windows search, and in fact, does not exist, at all on my computer...... but I'm supposed to figure that all out in fifteen minutes....please, lecture elsewhere.....I've about had it. I do better with bootleg programs..... These problems just were not a thing before, and now they are.
